recording help?

when i connect my djx700 mixer(which i know is notorious for sound quality) to my laptop via the line out (phono) direct to soundcard (3.5 mm), i get a very loud high pitched bleeping sound. iv also tried connecting my laptop straight to my amp, but i still get the annoying sound!
when i connect my laptop to my stereo though it doesnt happen.
any ideas as to how i can stop it???

| lol.... the problem is ur connecting it to the "line-out".... what u need to connect it to is the "line-in" or the "mic-in"... usually labelled one or the other for laptops. then go to ur windows volume settings, go to record settings, and click that lil box. then raise the volume accordingly. |

im talking about line out on the mixer, is that what you mean? the only line ins on the mixer are into the channels, is that what i should be connecting them to???
its going into the mic input on my laptop. |

oops... i read that wrong... i think u have to make sure that it really is the line-out... cuz u wrote line-out (phono).... it can't be line-out and phono at the same time.. i guess step by step would be...
make sure u have the rca's coming out of your master output, or your recording output from the mixer, going to the mic-in/line-in for your laptop... in your windows settings, click on the volume control on your start toolbar... or go to control panel, and volume. once u open up that window, go to the top and click options and then properties. you'll see another windown come up. if you click on recording, your record settings will come up.... now click ok, and you should have the previous window except with your mic/line-in volume.. try lowering it, perhaps its clipping.
also i'm conused to if it is your recording that gets the high pithched bleeping or if the bleeping is coming from your speakers... also make sure your groudns from ur tt's are connected to ur mixer... haha. |

the noise is coming from my speakers, i havent tried to record anything yet because of it.
when i turn the mic volume up and down the noise gets louder or quiter, so il play about with it, see what effect it has on the recordings

not exactly sure what that means, but you may well be right, they are pretty cheap and crappy looking cables ! |
