I like vocals in songs!:tongue2

Yeah I love "vocal chopping" as well. I'm still struggling to figure out how they do it.

I thought I'd upload some of my favorite hardstyle bass sounds:

Bass1
Bass2
Bass3
Bass4
Bass5

How do you create your bass sounds? I've been asking around how to make hardstyle bass for over a year and nobody was ever able to give me a straight answer. Some people said it's a reversed hardcore kick -doesn't really work, other people said this sort of sound is only possible to achieve with a sampler. I'm getting closer and closer to getting that sound with my VST instruments, but I'm still not satisfied with the results.

Here are two bass sounds I made:

My Bass1
My Bass2

I'd love to hear your favorite bass sounds and the sounds you made yourself!

ok here's a little tip that will help you out in you rtravels. This goes out to any trance track as well. you see your problem is not in the sound..using teh right soudn is justy a matter of taste...by listeing to the sample clips and then listeing to your you can hear a subtle difference. Your sounds less exciting then the rest. Now the point being to get yoru soudning like teh others..well try this. see you have your bassline sitting right after the kick..not good! what you want to do is make the kick chase teh bassline and make the baseline sound like its faster than the kick, so it tends to make the track sound a little faster(hard to explain). Anyway, all you have to do is nudge your bassline over a little...very slightly though..try different positions further away and clsoer to its origin, till you are satisfied. Also try using subtle distortion on your basslines to give it that gritty harsh sound. Oh and another cool trick is to us a long attack on each bass note so that the bassline sort of sounds like its reversed(in one of your clips).

Sorry for tha massive explaination.

first sounds great!! but you have to fix second. bass is too short.

I swear there were two more posts here that got deleted. One by Delay and one by me. What's going on?

Thanks for the compliment, hardikaveri :)

Here's how I do these bass lines. Delay uses a similar approach that he described in the post that got deleted.

The trick is to place the bass note on the note right after the kick:

Kb--Kb--Kb--

then increase the attack to get the desired sound. Release, Decay and Sustain should be at the minimum (as far as I remember, I'm not at my DAW right now). You can also play with the Filter Attack and Filter Envelope Amount to get the sound you want.
After this I run the bass and the kick through the same compressor - settings for this application vary.

For some reason the technique described above doesn't work with the Virus|PowerCore plug-in, probably because Virus has a much higher attack than the other VSTi I use. Although, I was able to make it work (to a certain degree) by moving the bass note forward by an extra 1/64th. I'll have to play around more with it to see if Virus would be suitable for this application because with its saturation feature the latter could create some very nasty/gritty hardstyle bass sounds.

I've also noticed that some producers use two layers for their bass lines - one for the actual "bass" with no high frequencies, the other for the sound itself, with mid-high frequencies, distortion and sometimes delay/reverb. This second bass normally has a low cut filter applied.

Share your techniques here!
