Picked this up in Berlin in July. It's quite good, and actually has a lot of home listening value, unlike their latest releases, on which they have their own heads so far up their own arses that it isn't worth spending money on.

'amber' is the closest autechre have ever gotten to ambient. i like it but prefer ae's other releases that tend to show their harsher side instead. i personally consider chiastic slide to be their best release up to this date, mainly due to its prominent industrial undertones that, however, still seem to blend perfectly with those alluring musical themes that ae's early works are renowned for. but yeah, pretty much everything released after lp5 is straightforward avant-gardism that only few people will be able to appreciate (hell, i listen to harsh noise on a regular basis and even i can't get into gantz graf or even confield, for that matter).

also, if you do end up liking 'amber' i suggest that you get the so-called garbage. it's comprised of 4 leftovers from 'amber', among which is vletrmx21 that is oftentimes mentioned as ae's best ambient track.

I love amber. When i bought it in 95 i was just blown away by all of the tracks, but especially by the synths in Nine. Check out others if you like this one, and compilations with autechre tracks that were not released on their own album.

They have lost the plot of late and their egos are out of control but this CD was nice.
