I was just wondering if anyone on the board used to listen to that stuff they played in Miami, and NY, and I think Cali before trance became popular.

Anyone older than 18 on this board that is from Miami, shouuld know what I'm talkin about... Power 96 and Hotwheels music. Does anyone have any mixes. I get such a kick out of mixing this stuff now.

Old school like

Freestyle
Pretty Tony
Afrika Bambataa
Cybotron
Egyption Lover

Johnny O
Stevie B
lil suzy

Bass
MC Shyd
Clay D

Booty
Anyone that listend to it knows em all

yep thats the music you heard here in Miami in the 80s,which I grew up with cause when My sister and brother were in High School this music was at its prime. We had a party at my house I remember and the DJ played this and your basic Power 96 stuff from that generation.
here are some other songs I like that havnt been listed already

The Kromozone Project - Take My love
TKA-Diamond Girl
TKA-Maria

TKA-sending all my love
Stevie B-Dreamin Of love
Debbie Deb-Lookout Weekend
Stevie B-Spring Love
TKA-Louder than love
Noel-Silent morning
Expose-Point of no return
Lissette Melendez-A day in my life

and of course these
Africa Bambatta & the soulsonic force-Planet Rock
Looking for the perfect beat
Planet Patrol-Play at your own risk

Cybotron - Clear

Basicly nowadays Florida Breaks DJs like Baby Anne and Icey are keeping the Breaks sounds of Bambatta alive today.

by the way I stop listening to Power 96 for a while now, but I wonder whatever happened to DJ Laz,the king of booty music.

When I think of freestyle, I think of 2 tracks that made it huge...

Jocelyn Enriquez - Do You Miss Me
Rockell - In A Dream

Those were the 2 really popular ones in the Tampa area

I'm from L.A.

Freestyle was what originally got me into trance a long time ago.
But, I still listen them.

I used to be obsessed with breakdancing and stuff like that.

oh man . are you bringing back the memories for me! .. this was one of the first EDM stuff i was listening to, and techno too before trance.

Debbie Deb had some hot sh!t back then .. i think she's like a drum n bass/breakbeat mixer now .. something like that .. saw her mix album like last year.

Yeah, I listen to the types of artists mentioned above once in while. Lately I've been playing Cover Girls/Expose. Although Rockell is quite good, as is TKA...

However I mostly prefer the faster euro/energy stuff. Not the same beat, but more energy. But since I like the vocals & synths in freestyle I dont complain.
