Something fresh

I'm a huge trance fan. I take a lot of for liking it, both by non electronic music fans and electronic music fans. Even clubbers around here hate trance, but I try to stick to the good stuff. Lately though, it’s been harder to find good stuff. I've been getting bored and I thought I would never ever say that. I really don't want to make this another 'trance sucks' thread, because indeed there are good trance tunes out there. It's just harder to find.
Something troubled me recently. I tried to spread the word on some huge tracks by Astura called Cassiopeia and Cassandra. After spinning them on my radio show, it garnished much positive feedback. Yet at chemical records, though it is only one source, it entered 50 in the top 50 weekly chart and then immediately dropped off. It sent a powerful message to me that not only is quality trance hard to come by, but people don't wanna here it either. Yes, it could be that I'm the only one that likes the tracks, though listeners to my show and those that replied to my thread here will say otherwise. Still, it was very shocking to me to see this release not do so well.
Anyway, to make a rant short, I began hitting the shops and getting into not prog but techno. I was already into some prog and breaks (trancey breaks) but techno is getting big with me. I'm liking the hard driving bass similar to Carl Cox stuff.
So, my question to all of you out there who also have a taste for various genres, what would you recommend to me if I like driving stuff. The repetitiveness doesn't bother me.
Here are some examples (even though a lot of trance DJ's are spinning them):
1. Mojado - Naranja(Dimitri Andreas Vision Mix)
2. Joshua Ryan Vs. Stillife - Damage(Josh’s Damaged Organs Remix)
I'm really liking #2...must find more like this!
Anyways, I'm not saying Trance is dead...but I am gonna break from it for a bit and test out techno...or hard driving stuff. I've done a few prog and trancey breaks sets too.
But good driving stuff, if you know any like the two above (all I could think of right now) hit me back!
Thanks to all for your help!

| Trance is hurt under the weight of the evil 3some (Markus, Armin and A&B), who seem hell bent on pushing lame formulaic garbage on the masses, to sell more records with a loss in innovation. Most music genres hit this point at some time, it is all about if you wish to sell out. I'm constantly looking around the world for new artists and new things from any genre going. I've found a group that I think could be the next thievery corporation, I dunno. The way I look at it, listen to what you and enjoy it. I loved trance but then I got sick of some of it and I've moved on to breaks, tech house, tribal and ambient, chillout and downtempo but I still like it. |

The first thing that comes to mind is that you never really DJ'd because you loved the music! I think that any DJ's who jump genres, are more into the DJing aspect, rather than the love of the music.
Don't get me wrong, I know where you're coming form on a few things though. It's getting extremely harder to find NEWER, GOOD trance! you really do have to dig deep to find the good stuff nowadays. There used to be such a collective mind with what people agreed on what good trance was. Now, I think the music has taken off so much, that people are trying to do their own thing, and no one can really agree with what "good" actually is.
2. Trance DJ's also play techno tracks because it can really add to the atmosphere of a party and the completion of a set. Believe it or not, even tranceheads like myself need a little break from a full 12hour night of trance music.
I think you'll really like China Lounge - Starsplash ... and listen to it loud! |

well now wait a min. I Love trance...LOVE IT! It's just harder to find what I love in trance today.
Jumping genres assumes there can only be 1 genre I like and have to stick to it. If I don't, then I'm jumping. Not True. When I first started spinning, I wasn't JUST spinning trance...I have liked many kinds of electronic music. Just because I want to start spinning more techno doesn't mean I have dropped trance and am just forgetting about it. If I could spin as a techno dj, a trance dj, a breaks dj, a prog dj it would rock...then again, no one would know what to expect out of you...but I love all those genres and I am def. not turning my back on trance...I just want to explore other things I also like more in depth. Also, I know many trance dj's drop other stuff in their sets. When I made that comment about my two tracks being in trance dj's sets, I thought it came across as being odd that I was asking for techno even though my two tracks were being played by trance dj's. So that's why I made my comment...the fact that they are playing them isn't bad...it's good. I just couldn't think of any tracks Cox has been playing recently.
anyways...thanks for the track, checking it out now |
