The Grudge (Spoilers, dumbass)

So I went to go see this movie tonight...and was thoroughly scared by it :nervous:

Very good use of suspense (far above what most movies do) and ambient lighting/special effects. There was a minimal amount of CG used, which is always a good thing :happy2:

I wish they would have released it with the name Ju-On though... with a foreign-sounding name, it might have deterred some of the idiot atendees at the 10 o-clock showing :whip:

When the entire theatre busts out laughing because they think the japanese language sounds funny, it just pisses me off to no end. And why is it that people will only use the word 'jap' when they are whispering to a friend so loudly that pretty much everyone around can hear how much of a bigot they are?

Oh well...

My only advice - see this movie at a really late showing, or in about 3 weeks when it has been moved to a smaller screen and has less idiot 13 year-olds in the theatre watching it. I swear, the entire movie was like that scene from Gremlins where they were all watching Snow White :wtf: :stongue: (an even scarier movie we won't get into here :nervous: )

If you're reading this, and you haven't seen it yet, then SHAME on you! I said there were spoilers in the title of this thread! :whip: :haha:

But the scene where the girl turned around and was missing her jaw?...:nervous: :nervous:

Overall - movie experience 7/10

movie - 9/10

Very enjoyable horror/thriller/ghost movie! :happy2:

Mebot
yeah apparently its really scary

Sorry halycon i didnt read your entire post, because u said SPOILERS and I haven't seen it yet.

My friend called me and said yeah its one of the scariest movies he's ever seen. He said his eyes hurt from clenching his eyes shut thru the movie and at one point he had to put his hands over his ears.

thing is... my friend is pretty tough, always gets in fights, so i'm not one to say he's a pansy. and when he says that he was scared less by this movie....

well then it's definitely a movie i'll czech out. when i have money of course...:wtf:

I didn't think it was that scary...

but then again, they showed like the best parts in the trailer!!! Everytime a scare was going to come up, I was like... this is the part where.... and this is the part where...

plus the showing I went to was packed with adolescents. They screamed... then laughed... then made stupid comments. I wanted to shoot them all! Should have been rated R just to keep stupid kids out of the theatre.

Oh, and the girl with the missing jaw! It was so expected.

Maybe it takes a little bit more to scare me; or maybe it was just the atmosphere of the movie theatre that ruined it for me.

Great movie. I was thoroughly scared through most of it. I had problems with people talking also and it annoyed me. I thought it was better than the ring but they were different movies. Grudge had a more spooky feel while the ring had a more mystery scary.

nope nope .. sorry .. i really don't like sarah michelle gellar movies (except for 'cruel intentions' with selma blair ...   )

i am thinking of watching 'Saw' instead of this movie... has anyone seen 'Saw' yet?
Cal
Whats wrong with saying jap? Its just like saying white instead of saying caucasian in my opinion.

And yeah Im totally seeing saw on halloween night, looks really good, people were really excited for it at the Toronto Film Festival when I was there

If she's in it I'm guessing this is a remake...
Halcyon+On+On
Yeah...but it's a really good remake! I think...

I never saw the original - isn't it kind of an old movie, though? Old movies (especially foregin ones) tend to be very...strange, to say the least. :disbelief

----spoiler-----

I like the fact that the end was scary as well - it was somewhat like The Ring, where it just sorta left you guessing as to what happened next - sort of leaves the viewer to fill in the rest of the story and how the curse proliferates...especially since they didn't actually succeed in burning the house down ;)

-------end spoilage------------

Definitely go see it if you can effectively keep up with plot lines. The story shifts around a lot and isn't really all that linear - I like that in a movie, I dunno ;)

I didn't know Ju-On was remade :)
Original's not that old really, I've no idea when it was made though... definately worth looking for though, scary as hell :nervous:

Yah..strange..BUT GOOD! Ju-on: The grudge, the japanese verison is acutally a remake of an old tv movie. Amercians can't seem to make good horror movies anymore. All they do is load the movie with tons of CGI and lame one-liners. The scare factor has been long gone. The trend these days is to re-make asian horror films. I hear a remake of The Eye is in the works. Tom Cruise's company bought the rights to make it. I'm probably gonna go check out The Grudge tho, I kindof did enjoy the remake of The Ring, probably because Naomi Watts was in it haha. Oh its nice to see that The Grudge was also directed by the same director as the Ju-on as well.
