When I go to TOTA.com I do the following:

I always review the thread list to determine which threads are new/have new posts before I start reading.

Once I've read the list of thread topics that are new/have new activity - I start reading the first one, and work my way down.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: I read each and every thread thrice (upon creation or any new activity). Once for a general overview, twice for full comprehension and thrice to commit it to memory.

I reckon I'm the most skipped poster.

I generally don't skip people's posts unless they are VERY long winded posts from some moron. Then I just skim them.

If it has a lot of mumbo jumbo that doesn't interest me, or it's a flame war, I will skip. Otherwise, I read mostly every post.

the ignore function saves my sanity. and that way i get to see the posts i care about and none of the bull.

hmm, if only thread subjects could be ignored. i would be so happy. there is a few dumbass thread topics on the first page right now that i wish i didn't have to read over and over again.

Some people take it to an extreme though - that is, some people just read the 1st post of the thread and immediately hit the "Reply" button to throw in their two cents - often making themselves look like fools

Heres a prime example of this:

the two obvious ones. that's it.

PS. The reason why I read the posts of the people that I know in real life and don't feel bad about it, is because I know a lot of people on this board.

Also I notice I read all of what the girls have to say. That's cuz I'm sexist.
