Ok my review:
I didn't get much sleep after Holden, so I decided that I would have a "nap" on Saturday night from 11pm until 2am and then head down for 3am. Somehow I slept through my alarm clock (set to go off at 2am) and didn't wake up until my cell phone beeped with a text message from tatgirl at 3:30 (thank's Nat!!!). Got cleaned up and was down and inside Boa about 4:05.
NOTE TO EVERYBODY: Any type of list that Boa has (guest list, comp list, "the-list" list) closes between 3:00 and 3:30. The list is only open for the first 2 to 2.5 hours of the night. Why? I don't know - but for a place that is open until 7am+, closing the list 2 hours into the night doesn't make a lot of sense to me. AFAIK being on "guest list" gets you bypass only - since there usually isn't a line before 2am, it's not really useful unless you plan on going between 2am and 3am (afterwhich it is not valid). I suggest Boa either revise their "list policy" or make the execution of the list more consistent (I've had different experiences/stories on different visists).
I got into Boa and was greeted by special friends and Demi laying down some fantastic groovy house music. The party was in full swing - it is nice to walk into a party when the place is going bonkers - it "shocks" you from normal to excited in 2 seconds (great feeling). Within minutes of saying hi to everybody - I was dancing to what felt like aural velvet.
Demi? This guy is unreal. Now mind you - I didn't really "get" the whole prog-house/house music thing until a month or so ago when I had a “zen” moment – but what impressed me most was Demi's "across the board" housey style. I’ve found that I’m personally more into the tech-house/dark-tribal house style, which Demi played (and very well) and Demi would also transition from one style of house to another and back and forth which kept the pace and energy fluid and interesting. It was great that if one track/style didn't grab you 100% the next track would do so for sure. Demi has some serious and significant talent and the music was marvelous. I remember looking to the DJ booth mid-stride, while dancing, and seeing Demi rockin' it out to the music just as hard as the crowd - this guy loves his music and that energy shows and flows.
Boa never ceases to impress me. I think what I like about Boa the most is the continual “party atmosphere”. You walk in, the energy is positive and high – and it remains that way until you leave. Everybody at Boa “holds it together” no matter how much “fun” they are having – which makes one feel uber comfortable while there. Rony runs a tight ship – and as a patron, it is appreciated.
Upon leaving I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Demi is a bi-monthly resident – as I couldn’t help wanting more 5 minutes after I left (it was –that- damn good). Not to mention he’s apparently going to be at Boa on NYE (clear your schedule!!!).
Overall night was fantastic (wikkid friends, super tunage, best boogie’n in a while). AWESOME!
I haven't wrote a review like this in a long while - realize how good it was for me to do so. |

RJ, list is reduced/linebypass and is open for 2-2.5 hrs, allowing you to get cheaper cover longer, so it's always useful, and the execution of the club's 1-3:30 policy has been consistent. You got there after 4am, and I've never heard of list going that late. If there was any confusion, I'm very sorry bro and I'll make it up to you anyway possible.
At other venues that do the early am close around 6am.. (although Boa goes 7-9 or later depending on the event)
Compare how the 2.5hrs, a Toronto standard, works @ a club open @ 10. You are out of luck if not in line by 11 usually, since it ends @ midnight, or 12:30/1 at the latest. The traffic flow of partiers is always in the first 2-3 hrs of any event, anywhere.
I was really happy to see you there bro, and hopefully @ many more. The TA gang certainly made the night the blast it was for me... I'll post my review in a bit, dinner's here YAY! |

RJ, im sorry you werent aware of the guestlist policy, i never informed you of when it did close, so i apoligize. Boa has always been clear on their guestlist formalities and i as a promoter failed to deliver this information, so please dont hold the club or anyone at the door responsible. I hope the stellar music provided by Demi was some sort of compensation, and by the sounds of your review, it sounds like it was. The TA massive is starting to make regular appearances on a weekly basis, and i hope to see a continuous growth in the future. Nobody knows how to party like us TA's, and its always great to see you all with youre positive vibes. |

Dood! All is good. I'm not angry or frustrated about the g'list policy - it's just that sometimes it has been reduced, sometimes it has only been bypass, sometimes it's not been available at all. I have been there at 2am and had bypass ~not~ reduced. I have been there at 2am and had reduced ~and~ bypass.
It just seems odd to me that the g'list "expires" at time that the line-up could still be rather long.
I never expect to get in for free or reduced - doing so is only a bonus (and nice one at that). I don't mind paying for good talent, as they are ~generally~ worth it - and Demi was well worth the money! I will be going to Boa to see him again for sure.
None the less - booyaka-sha! The night was magnifique! I urge everybody to hit up Boa as often as they can - the results are spectacular.

Floorwhore, crazedcanuck and Rony - thanks for everything.
Boa, hands down, provides the most superior nightclub experience in the city. |

what a weekend
Am still in Toronto though have only now just recovered from what has been a weekend to remember for me
as yes many of you know I made my debut at Stereo in Montreal on Friday night. had been very nervous though mega excited about the gig for weeks.
going on at 6am though was a totally new experience for me let alone at such a club like Stereo
the gig itself was simply incredible and what was so nice to see were the amount of friendly people in the club that I met and as for Scotty and Big Al - couldn't ask for two nicer hosts who welcomed me to the club and cannot wait to go back and play there again very soon
as for BOA.....?
To be honest i was pretty shattered from the travelling, the playing at Stereo and the drive to Toronto the next day. Yes i ended up missing another flight due to over-enjoyment (i think i had the right to have a good time....:lol)
i couldn't wait to arrive at the club. I find that if I am tired and i am due to play in the evening i just want to get on the decks as soon as possible...the moment i sit down is the moment i collapse...I got to the club and was so happy to see a lot of now familar faces and new friends.
My home away from home? it could be
it was great to see the club visually done up as it was on Sat night and I urge the club management to keep this going. There was already a packed dancefloor when i arrived and Sean was once again just bubbling things over till I got on the decks...It had me dancing for a good 30 mins or so.
I had been told that many people had been disappointed with various DJ sets from DJ's who had played at Boa and Stereo in successive nights
personally for me any excuse to play is a good excuse and as soon as i stepped into the booth I WAS FIRED UP READY TO GO AND UNLEASH.
what has been so fantastic about this residency since i started at the beginning of the year is the opportunity i have had to be so diverse in all of my sets on each occasion. the crowd each time have been second to none and i guess i have been trying to test a lot of different sounds and see what works and what makes people tick but never compromise what I love playing. I love house music and that can take so many forms and styles but i break it down simply as GOOD AND BAD MUSIC..it's as simple as that from the tribal sounds, to tech, electro, funk to all the old school classics if a song is good IT'S GOOD
The comments and feedback from everybody has been overwhelming and it makes all the hard work that goes into these sets worthwhile. I never pre-plan any of my sets and in fact my set at Stereo was very different to Boa which for me is most satisfying and rewarding as i get bored very easily of playing the same records and style of music.
Each time i play i want to play the best set it can be whether it is in front of 50 people or 1000 people.
sat night was without doubt a magical night from start to finish - everything seemed to click and I can't thank Boa enough for sticking their necks out and giving me a chance to prove and most important of all be myself when I play
again there are too many hellos to say to everybody but you all know who you are but a special mention to head security chief the loveable adorable EDWIN and couldn't resist the challenge of getting him to shake his `thang` and happily whacked on probably my favourite Stevie Wonder track "I wish"....this amongst so many other all time classic tracks for me was a brilliant way of wrapping up the last hour of the night dancing away till 1030am...
BOA IS MY HOME AWAY FROM HOME and am looking forward to NYE already.....I will be spinning for 8 hours and will have a set of DEMI RESIDENCY ANTHEMS with a twist ready for the special event and then will be dancing my ass off to the rest of the dj's on show for the big marathon event
there will be pictures posted up on my website when i return back to London next week.

Then there may be a saving grace to me not going.
I have to get my hands on the Boa set. |

Yeah, I completely forgot to talk about the decor.
When a club is done up like Boa was that night - it brings the whole evening to another level.
It shows you that the organizers/owners have taken the time to preapare and that this just isn't some other night. It immediately makes you know that the night is important and special - and the crowd treats it as such through the energy and vibe.
I agree with Demi - doing up the venue like that should be continued - it is fantastic. |

The visuals were truly awesome that night. I'm always blown away by Demi. He's been one of my fav DJs since the first time I heard him at Boa, all those many months ago. Saturday night though was intense, the combination of his amazing music along with the wicked and tasteful mad hatter theme, made it a night that will be remembered for a long time to come. It was cool to be back and I'm glad I made it. Sorry if I missed saying hello to anyone (I said hello to Nat, Sean and Crazedcanuck... there could be more). I definitely hope I can make it out again soon... Now I go back to writing my paper on the Sufi interpretation of Muhammad's "falling star" meeting with Allah. Oh that crazy Islamic mysticism :)
Cheers everyone! |

| Glad to see Demi enjoyed himself as much as the crowd did. Not that we needed him to state that, it was very visable he enjoyed himself ;) |
