Ok my computer was working fine until yesterday I restart my computer and all over a sudden it starts running... choppy.. i guess is the word to describe it. it's operating like a cd plays that has been scratched up a lot, it keeps skipping. even at windows startup the music skips. i ran spysweeper and nothing came up so i don't think it's a virus or something
any help would be very appreciated, thanks! :) |

| Try checking your MSCONFIG to see if you don't have a ton of useless starting up when WINDOWS starts. Not sure what else. Good luck. |

| my guess is spysweeper is really dezigned to remove spyware and not viruses. if you wanna run a free online scan check out housecall.antivirus.com and run one from there. If you have winXP start-run-msconfig and take everything minus you spysweeper or antivirus out of the startup tab. last tab at the top. if that doesnt work run a system restore |

I AGREE.
from my experience, the sound card would be choppy at the windows "greeting", because many many programs are using the cpu, and the cpu is trying to play the theme song. well, it sounds like the cpu is burning out playing the theme song.
i say use msconfig to dig out the useless and bad stuff, or just pop the CD. |

| could be your hard drive. if the disk is wearing (possibly due to not defragging much?! old disk etc..?!) that would cause you computer to be choppy. can you hear your hard disk 'clicking' at all? that's what happens when the drive head starts to wear / gets knocked out of place etc. If this is the case, CLONE your hard drive now, before it packs in for good! |

as someone else sugested run defrag (goto "my computer" right click on your harddrive and select properties from the menu, then click the tools tab, then click the defrag (the middle option i think!) and let it do its stuff, while your there also run the drive error checking thing (used to be called scandisk in the olden days cant remember whats its called now!)
if this doesnt work, could you list your pc specification, and how old it is? |
