Ridiculous Ohio Ballot

Notice the layout and which number corresponds to which box

This ballot makes no sense and is designed to trick the voter into marking #14 when trying to pick BUSH.

I'm not a bush supporter but i agree with you in that the ballot is confusing. Your allege an intent to deceive, which may or not be true. On what do base this? In any case, ballots should not be designed like this.

I find it sadly ironic that afghanistan will probably have a better-organized and more transparent election, than the US.

Isnt that like the Ballot used in West Palm Beach on the 2000 election where most of people voted for Pat Buchanan, in an area largely democratic tours AL Gore, which may have had Gore in the White House today?!?!.. Hope you guys understand by having your own candidated in same situation.. and yes, what a bad ballot. US elections are so complicated.. jeeez.

The afghanistan election card had the four or so candidates with a large photo of the candidate next to their name with a big check box. Maybe we should adopt that.

I can't believe that voter card.

Not smart enough to read the directions equals not smart enough to vote IMO. However, it should be configured so that idiots who want to vote for Kerry will get it wrong as well to be fair.

There's a lot of older people who vote who have a hard time seeing and I remember that at the last election when they were complaining the text being too small to read. That has nothing to do with being smart enough to follow instructions, it has to do with a bad design which they promised would be fixed 4 years ago. We have too many different voting systems when there should be a single universal voting system that is easy for a monkey to figure out.

Florida election officials promised to fix it, I don't believe anyone in Ohio made any such claim. But I do agree that there should be a clear, standardized system for voting.

I think we need to do some more research on this one guys. It seems very likely to me that this could be photoshopped.

It makes no sense that the first two line up exactly, yet the other two do not. All that would have to happen is for someone to erase the "1" before the last two to make it appear like this. If a "1" was put infront of the last two numbers they would each line up perfectly with "12" and "14," respectively. I live in Ohio, and I'd think I would have heard something if it was really this bad, yet I have not. I'll try to find out for sure, but my bet would be that this is a hoax.

Ok...I did a little more research.

This is what an absentee voter got from Cuyahoga county (Cleveland). The problem is the county gave the voter the exact same punch card that a regular voter gets. When you put the card in the election machine, there is no confusion as the numbers and arrows actually do align, however the county decided to mail out the cards themselves instead of a traditional absentee ballot that I have used for my home county in Ohio numerous times. I think this is a case of a county board of elections being idiots and it may affect a few votes (not that I'm trying to downplay the seriousness of this), but will probably not affect the result of the Ohio election as a whole.

I can believe that that is what happened but I would not go so far as to say it will not impact the election, it is going to be really close. This election will be my first time voting in Cuyahoga county but when I voted in California (with the punch card ballots) it always seemed clear which holes matched up. I hope it really is obvious when it is in the voting machine but because it is such a close election a bunch of messed up absentee ballots will make a differencem, IMO.

Yeah, really fascinating. What's the point with having that bunch of numbers on the right side in the first place???
