UNKLE - The Rock Concert

Hey guys,
I saw UNKLE last night in NYC at a small club called the Canal Room. They were amazing! I love their sound. The venue was small - it looked packed with about 100+ people in there. They had a great video show while they played.
The vibe from the event felt much more like a rock concert than a club dj event. No one was dancing. Everybody watched like shoegazers at the video and UNKLE, Richard File and James Lavelle. The one disappointment was that they did not have enough songs. They played for 2 hours but they played "In A State" FOUR TIMES! It gets to you after a while.
So I'm writing this because I'm really worried about them playing at the Guv on a Saturday night. I think this is a BAD idea unless they surprise me by playing a true DJ set but even then, their sound is so ambient and different, that I dont' think the typical GUV clubber will get it. UNKLE should be playing at Soundbar, Loft, or even the Orange Room in the Guv. I'm worried things will turn out like the Bassbin Twins for them :(
Please show your support though if you're an UNKLE fan! |

Im a huge UNKLE fan, but i agree with you on this. I just felt the Guv wasnt the right venue for this. I feel something smaller and more intimate would definately be better for these guys. I can just picture the looks on the faces of those attending the Guv with no clue as to what "trip-hop/rock/hip-hop" sounds they are about to endure. Im sure 50% of the crowd will be expecting MO style..... |

as far as i know Richard File doesn't DJ, but James lavelle can spin his
funky breaks/rock influenced trip hop, like he did in Lotus and System.
i remember when he was here at Lotus the crowd was dancin like hell, so i guess when they are done with the rock show(!), JL could change hats and dj the rest of the night...(hope so) :) |
