Confused about Dj Albums

Alright, I have a question to ask you people. You know how there are DJ's who make an album and you can see it in Wal-Mart,Best Buy, etc. Well, the majority of the tracks are usually othere peoples remixes, songs you know. What I want to know is, do they have to ask permission to put that song on there album? Also, do they even do something to that track, like make it different, or all they do is take that persons song and put it on there album and make cash out of it, like those "Now thats what I call Music:7" .

They have to pay a license fee, unless the author of the copyrighted work allows them to use it for free. I'm sure other TAs know a lot more though.

well you should know what they do with the tracks if you really are a dj like your nick indicates.

normally works on royalties with mix comps in the EDM world rather than a one off fee i.e. amount determined by copies sold etc. prodcuers will make most of their money out of the royalties on the whole.
