| Now that Eminem and Bruce Springstein are voting for Kerry, how could I ever vote for Bush? :toothless |

yeah i saw that on tv the other day...
the only reason Eminem is still rapping is cos someone hasn't capped his ass yet.
on that note, i dont really care for his music, or him.
my girlfriend was like: "download me eminem music and burn me a cd" this was like half a year ago. i downloaded tons of it, but it just sits there on my computer, i dont listen to it, and i told her that i dont like eminem, his lyrics are offensive to me, and i refuse to listen or burn a cd for her. so when she asked me to download a country song for her, i went out and bought her the cd.
positive reinforcement:D

| a bunch of us watched it at work today. the most compelling question it raised was this: does the army issue hoodies? |

its not supposed to raise any compelling questions. if you read the article by the director he says he had been looking to do something like that for a while to stick it to Bush. of course he found Eminem, who would be more than willing to kick up more dust. anyways its more like a tool by related parties to motivate younger voters to help get Bush out of office |

that was our point. several of us realized that we could either pay attention to following the story of the video, or we could listen to what Eminem was saying. couldn't do both though. lately i've been wondering if it's a good thing to be encouraging people to vote, regardless of how informed they are. is it better to have 10 people vote just because Eminem told them to, or have two informed voters who vote? and please don't try to convince me that the average person watching an Eminem video pays much attention to politics. |

The reason we need to get ignorant young people to vote is to counteract the senile old people who always vote (and screw it up for the rest of us). |

You are both correct. The best democracy is one in which everyone votes and every vote matters. The first step is getting people out there and actually voting. When you break it down to the nuts and bolts it doesn't really matter how or why they are voting , but just that they are voting. Of course, one could argue the validity of this argument is proportional to the size of the population, and in America's case it holds up, in a smaller population maybe not.
But at any rate, once they are registered, and have voted at least once, the odds of them doing it again are very high. Its also true that even if the first time wasn't an "informed vote" rather just what they were told to do, the next time they vote is more likely to be an informed vote. |
