ok here's the case, my friend ask me if i could be a DJ during his home party, its only about 10-20 peeps (most of them i think doont like dance music) and his home is on apartment(2 bedroom pretty large)which i cant turn on the speaker to loudly, i play trance and chill out house should i accept they invitation coz during my experience these kind of peeps rather watching me playing and my turntable set then listen to the music, and i cant mix well coz when they're talkin too each other their voice is more louder than my speaker... should i accept it... coz i think its gonna be sucks |

i know what you mean about peoples voices being louder than the speakers. it gets on my nerves if i am trying to practice and there are people shouting in the background, it distracts.
but yeah, i would take it, its all experience. gaining experience of playing in front of people is very valuable if you intend on progressing into clubs. try doing the beatmatching solely in your headfones, that way you can get that as close as possible, and the rest you should be able to deal with. from what you say, they dont seem to be the type of people that are going to be that arsed about the odd dodgy mix, and i am sure they will appreciate that its hard when you can't hear the music ;) |

Accept it anyways, it won't have to be SUPER quiet, you'd be suprised how much walls can absorb(you're not trying to tear up a dancefloor, you're just playing some background music so its fine. Mix in the headphones if it becomes a problem. And it's true, people do love to watch people mix, no matter what your skill level is, it looks cool. It's also a good experience to mix under pressure. (You'll be under pressure just because people are listening, not that they'll know if you're doing well or not). Worst case scenario, you mix for a little and decide its not working, you can stop for a little and let them play around with your equipment if you want, or just chill with them and leave your equipment alone, etc. |
