Psychological affects of trance + working out.

Well here goes,

I have been working out for sometime now. I have a 35 minute cardio routine in which i burn 450 calories. I however have included something different in my routine. Here are the results.

The first week I listened to Hard Trance during my 4 days I do cardio a week. Bascially I burned about 20 more calories than I would have normally burnt during regular conditions. And the time flew by much quicker.

The second week I listened to the DJ Tiesto - In Search Of Sunrise trilogy. This was also done during the 4 days I do cardio. I found myself having a hard time concentrating on those days, and I also burned 15 fewer calories than average during that 35 minute routine.

Week 3 I listened to nothing but 100% vocal trance. This trance was mixed by DJ GT. I found myself keeping pace(between 200 and 210 steps a minute). I also burned 10 calories more than my average burn.

The last week(just finished it 6 hours ago) I endulged myself in the sweet sounds of Ferry Corsten. My chart that I was keeping was more inconsistent due to the fact that FC plays with your psychie during his mixes. He brings you way up and tears you down lower than you can imagine and back again. Also the time flew by at a steady pace.

Now you folks out there tell me what this all means to you. Is listening to Trance while working out beneficial or not? If it is beneficial do you think that my results are more or less skewed by my personal pref of certain sub-genres of Trance? Would you folks out there have different results if you did the same study as well?

My housemate has done a study on this based on bpm and work rate and found that if you match them you work to the beat and are able to reduce the amount of concentration on the actually physical action, which results in the exercise feeling easier to perform.

A side result was also that if u are familiar with the music it has a greater benefit as u adjust to it quicker than music u are not familiar with

Your study is flawed.

A) you have one subject.....you.....if you wanna generalize you are gonna need more

B) practice effects, as you work out, it gets easier (you get more in shape) and you have less carlories

C) experimenter bias, you know your hypothesis, so that effects your study

all in all this study was massively flawed and any stats ran form such a study would result in a p>.05.

You failed.

All very true but it would be pointless running a case study through stats in the first place, as the number of subjects doesn not meet the minimum criteria.

Plus La5er's wasnt really an experiment, more something he tried

its more depressing than boring. Knowing that 99.9999% of research is crap, make my research career look like poop.
