Some questions for locals. Toronto Trance Addict Moving to Melbourne!
View this Thread in Original format

Hey everyone,

On November 12th I'm flying into Melbourne and going to be spending the next year or so living and traveling around Australia and Melbourne. I am coming down with a friend of mine and his girlfriend. We are going to be looking to settle down in Melbourne, have an apartment, internet, ect. So I was wondering if some of the Oz TA's could help me out with a few questions.

1. Does anyone know somebody selling a used pair of tech 12's? Melbourne would be the preferred area, but anywhere in the Southeast would be fine too.

2. Internet? How much do you guys pay a month for a high-speed connection? Who is a good company to go with?

3. Record stores. What are some good record stores for trance in Melbourne?

4. Good areas to look for an apartment. Can anyone suggest a good area to look for a 2 bedroom apartment (willing to pay 300-350 a week). Looking for something close (or with easy access) to the nightlife area.

5. I have a weekly radio show that I do back here in Canada, which I am going to keep doing. So I will also be looking for some guest DJs from Australia and Melbourne. Anyone interested? Here is the show page --> LINK

And MOST IMPORTANTLY

5. I want to meet and get in touch with any promoters (big events or small). Any contact information for people that are active promoters in the city (or around Australia) would be very much appreciated.

Part of the reason I am making the move is to immerse myself in a city and focus 110% on DJing. Any help in this area would be VERY MUCH appreciated.

For more information on me, go to my webpage http://dj.vidman.ca/nuera. or email me at [email protected]

1. check www.inthemix.com.au forums... there is always ppl selling technics there

2. internet.. well you're best to go with ADSL... and the best provider in my opinion is IINET (www.iinet.net.au) get yourself hooked up with a Bliink Plan (personally im on the 1.5mbit) which costs me $109.95 per month, however you can check out the other prices yourself at - http://www.iinet.net.au/products/home/bliink/index.html.

3. good places to buy vinyl - Online, well there is only one real option - http://www.vinylwarning.com.au and if you want a 'real' store.. the best places for trance is probably Pure Vinyl, which is located at - Shop 2/ 168 -180 Commercial Rd Prahran. (Prahran is a south eastern suburb). for house/prog music, there is Rhythmn and Soul, which is located at - 128 Greville St Prahran.

4. if you're willing to pay that much, then go with Prahran/Windsor/St Kilda areas... anything you need to look at, check out - http://www.domain.com.au or http://www.realestate.com.au

5. if your radio show was an internet one, then you're sweet. unfortunately there is no real trance/electronic dance music radio shows in Melbourne.. ive tried speaking to one of the people a Nova 100 (www.nova100.com.au) as they have a shows on that channels sister station up in Sydney, however not here...

all you need to do is really head out to some of the clubs.. like Room, and Altitude and any of the 5am dj parties.. drop a cd in someones lap and see how you go..

good luck with everything... and any questions just send me a PM!
