It's not something people talk about anymore. Vibe as in "that party had a wicked vibe". People talk about who goes and the type of people they are but no one ever talks about that collective crowd feeling. Maybe thats because it doesnt happen much anymore.
Well tonight it did...
The vibe at the Roy Davis Junior party at Lust was incredible. A nice mix of sexy and funky people. No posers just people there to have fun with a smile on their face. People who were there for the music and the good times. And lots of sexy women.
And, it was so easy to talk to people. I met a tonne of people tonight and hardly any attitude. All you had to do was smile and say hello.
This new Saturday at Lust has the chance to become legendary.
The reno'd space feels very old school. Its a nice clubby set up but not too refined. You get the comfort factor of being in a club yet have the aura of being in a party space. Perfect lighting (not too bright but adequate) and good sound. Not to mention the live trumpet player and the crazy funk house that was played. I cant believe Roy played "ill be your friend" by Robert Owens..... I freakin lost it!
What a fun night! Ill be back for Roger Sanchez for sure.... |

| I hear what your saying. I feel the vibe most when I'm in Toronto as the TO people are the best people to party with, however I felt the vibe tonight! Just at a house party in Kingston, it's your friends and close people who make your night memorable! |

People do still talk about vibe, far too much in fact to the point where the word has started to lose its meaning. But I definitely hear what you're saying, that sounds pretty awesome (I heard the same thing about Mod Club). I'll be going for Sanchez so we'll see if it's the same kind of crowd - hopefully the big parties get the same vibe as the smaller ones.
What happened that caused you to spend a Saturday night away from the Guv? :p |

I was there earlier on and it was a fun party no doubt. Girls were dancing on the VIP tables in the drink! It was a nice surprise! |

Unless they changed the name of the place yet again i believe the name of the club is Lust and the night is called Arc but i could be mistaken. Its quite possible they did do a name change. The place does have a very New York feel to it. Same atmosphere as the former Arc in NYC which i went to in its incarnation as "Vinyl"
girllovingthevibe: Going for Roger S?
PS: thanks to Alex the lightman at the club for hooking it up. Great show! |

Great Post ! :)
I agree, the vibe aspect of a party is often overlooked when people review parties, but i guess that's because people have formed little groups within which they now party and don't really allow themselves to go out and meet somone new.
As someone who has done a fairshare of partying solo, i find the vibe aspect one of the most important ones when you go to an event at a club you've never been, without your regular crew. It forces you to go out and meet new people (which is never a bad thing).
I'll definately have to check this place out -- and Roger S is a perfect excuse to go in search for a friendly 'vibe'. :) |

I agree...vibe is really important...but maybe not as much as may be suggested here (at least not for me). The music and who I'm with is far more relevant to me.
I usually try to comment on the overall vibe...ie. is the crowd energized and really getting into the DJ's set, are the people friendly/polite as you navigate the club, is there a "happy" mood on the dancefloor, etc.
But...I tend to go out with friends, almost never alone. I don't feel the need to meet anyone when I go to a club...that's not my purpose for going out...but I'm always up for meeting new people, or chatting if someone approaches me and says hello, especially people from TA. It's a definite bonus though...just not a "purpose" for me, I guess. At Dumonde, I went with two other people, and ended up chatting and/or hanging out with at least a dozen at various times, which definitely adds to the enjoyment of the night, no question.
Marco V last month...our group was right at the front, near the stage area, having a blast...I'd look around and see several people kind of standing around, seemingly disinterested. Oh well...tough for them. While it's more fun to see an energized crowd, I still had a great time, as did everyone in my group.
So...while the overall vibe is definitely a factor...as a good vibe makes the night more enjoyable...the lack of one will rarely affect my decision to go to a club or leave early, unless it's a *really* bad vibe that interferes with me being able to enjoy myself. So long as I'm there with good friends and good music, I'm happy ;) |
