Need a new Graphic card,recommedations?

So i need it because of the new Directx9 thingy recently and San-Andreas of course and there are so many cards from Nvidia and Ati so i dont know what to buy (was screwed 3 years ago when the sell-man tricked me into buying a Geforce2 100\200)
I think i wanna go with ATi this time and because Israel is the land of the thiefs i can only afford buying something in the range of price of Radeon9600pro256mb...supporting articles would be cool.
The key sentence is: "cheaper with less diffrence from the more expansive,newer version."
And another 2 questions:
-what is better when it comes to Ati: Pro or XT or just the usual one?(the one with nothing written nxt to the number)
-a friend told me that a radeon9600 128mb is better than radeon9600 256 mb because of some compression issue or something,any truth in that?

Well, both pro and xt are pretty good in my opinion. If I'm following you correctly, you're looking for a card that's not too expensive but good and can get the job done. I'd personally say go with the 9800 Pro 128 MB. The 128 and 256 refer to textures... so if you plan to play lots of games that have a high texture count and you want to see all the textures maybe you'll want 256. I haven't personally heard any compression issues and I have a friend that has the 256 model and loves it. But for the money and price, that's what I'd go with.

10x dude but as i said - above 9600pro is too expansive here,i want something good but cheep like Geforce4 was 3 years ago - something that wouldnt be so expansive yet solid - i dont want to play games @1600x1200x32... |

Again:i cant afford stuff like that,my mom is paying for this stuff and not me...
Im thinking im gonna go with Spphire9600pro 128mb Dvi,should i get it? |

| The pc shop i work for had serious issues w/ lots of sapphire 9500/9600 cards not POSTing. We stoped carrying that crap and now sell power color instead. I would save your money. You will see a huge difference in a 9800pro or better tahn you will in a 9600. just save your cash. im sure the 9800pro/xt will drop in price even more. |

I've read great things about it and i know it performs well. I'd say if that's in your price range, go with that. |

What about Gigabyte Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB DDR Retail? is it better than the Sapphire one? its slightly cheaper so i suspect its not as good
And Yea basicly i can wait for the price to go down another 2 monthes but the question is: is it really goin to go down that dramaticly in only 2 or 3 monthes in Israel? - i dont think so... |

I just skimmed through a review on the card. Check it out:

It's performance seems to be slightly slower than a 9500, and somewhere in between that and a fx5600.
In the US, the price of a GeforceFX FX5700 card is around the same if not less as a 9600 pro and may deliver slightly better performance. |

Well, I've had some gigabyte stuff in the past [motherboard] and it worked really well... As for a video card, Im sure it would do fine but I've heard really good things about the Sapphires, especially dealing with superb overclocking. But even without ocing it, you should get quite a big bang for your buck.
As for the price coming down in the near future, I'd say that it's highly doubtful that it will end up changing too much. |

Yea but im worried about what dj chex said,i dont want no problems...Damn i hate computers!!! theres just nothing on the market worth spending money on at this point:mad:

i cant find the diffrence between those 3,they are all the same IMO,which one should i buy? do you have a site comparing these 3 dj chex?

Well, you also need to take into account that the Ati 9600 Pro was overclocked. Basically it comes down to which one you feel more comfortable with. All 3 will perform about the same... If you want to o/c it, you'll want the Ati version for this specific 9 series.
Either way you're lookin at from either 100-120.

I'd say either go with:
SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 9600PRO Video Card, 256MB DDR, 128-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP -BULK -OEM or
ATI RADEON 9600PRO Video Card, 128MB DDR, 128-Bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "100-437002-BULK" -OEM.
Personally for the money I'd go with the Sapphire.. slightly faster memory speed, 256 MB, and quite frankly same performance for cheaper. But its all up to you and how much you trust Sapphire. Given your reluctance from previous posts, I'd say for the extra 11 bucks or so it might be better to pay it and feel comfortable with what you have
