Just got this in from tol23.com - an interesting development that might shed some light on the accuracy of DJ Mag Top 100.

While nothing is perfect, the methods behind this seem less susceptible to manipulation, as they are based on verifiable data.

The results of their preliminary research are very interesting - check out the Top 30.

Dear DJs, Magazines and Online Zines

Following the debacle of the DJ Mag Top 100. we have decided to start a new global poll. No vote campaigns from 12 year olds, no hacking of unprotected php scripts, this poll will use the top web ranking site based on unique visitors, web page views etc. The placings will be updated every 3 months based on the latest ranking figures and will anticipate upcoming djs from every country in the world.

Although we are still trawling through over 1000 DJ website rankings, here is a very provisional top 30. We haven`t decided whether to sub catageorise it into a DJ and Live act split, what we can say is that we believe this poll to reflect not only established trends, but also emerging trends. All placings and stats will be able to be confirmed. Whilst this list will exclude DJs without their own personal websites, many would argue in the age of internet domination, DJs who don`t have the fortitude to invest in their own site will ultimately pay the price. Criteria for DJs who use their label as their own personal site will be decided in the next week. We may also offer a genre based listing, however feedback on this issue is welcome.

We would invite you to compare our list with the so called DJ top 100 recently published by DJ mag, and if you feel that our list is a more accurate reflection of global dance music and would like to lend you support (not financial...this project will be funded from within The Outer Limits)...

1)Tiesto

3)Christopher Lawrence
4)Junior Vasquez
5)Paul Van Dyk

27)Dj Hell
28)Timo Maas
29)John Digweed

The URL effective from November 11 is http://www.thedjtop100.com ...

Lets give the promoters and kids a true reflection of what is strong, of emerging musical trends etc and stop bogus polls like this denegrating the scene and the industry many of us love.

Peace

I agree with #26, but the rest of that list is kinda...off...

That top 30 seems more accurate in my mind but that's obviously an American version.

Keep in mind, this list not about which DJ is "better", or who is most "deserving".

This is a list of the DJs with the thirty most popular websites out there.

It is based on what these DJs actual web traffic is, what their unique hits are.

It's an accurate representation of which DJs websites people are looking at the most, which in turn, is a good indication of who the clubbers are generally interested in.

You can also verify this information at www.alexa.com, which provides you with stastitics on any website you choose, plus it has some cool comparison tools.

It is not an American list, this is a list of the top thirty DJ websites - worldwide.

That's bogus.

You cannot use Alexa as a barometer for the traffic of a web site - all it does it show you trends in relation to those that have the Alexa toolbar installed - and their respective searches, etc.

It has NO IDEA of what a site's actual traffic #s are, since that data can only be obtained if you have tracking code on the main page(s) of each individual site

I only mentioned Alexa because I have personally used it in the past :)

Fair enough, but, you can't make statements like:

...when you don't have that data available to you.
