No you can't.
| quote: |
- Gives your legs a quick break and refresh.

Every four minutes? You need more exercise.
| quote: |
- Allows time to chat with the hot blonde chicky shaking her booty in front of you. |
Sorry, came for the music.
| quote: |
- Sorts the men from the boys on the huge buildups that often follow.
|
The pointless buildups which leave the dj bereft of any ability to create tension and release without using tracks that do it for him.
| quote: |
- Really allows maximum benefit from the highs and lows of the track in question. |
Two minutes of silence breaks the flow of the entire track. The problem is the highs and lows of the entire track. The DJ should be able to create highs and lows with minimal help from the tracks.
| quote: |
- Gets the idiot break dancer types off the dance floor. |
They're smarter than most, apparently.
| quote: | | - Gets the dancer to use their hands a bit during the breakdown which is fun and looks good. |
Gets me to stand there wondering where the beat went. If I want to use my hands i'll rent some porno.
| quote: | | - Perfect time to head to the podiums. |
Every four minutes? |

Ahh Radagast.
I think that you are exageratting just a little with your suggestion that there are 2 minute periods of no music every 4 minutes. I'm not sure which club you go to, but either they need to fix their stereo system, you need to take less drugs or you need to move to a better venue.
Some helpful suggestions so you don't crack the s next time you are listening to a Dj and there are breakdowns in the track selection:
1. A good scratch of the nuts should take a good 30 seconds, and when combined with a bit of an ass scratch and re-adjustment of your underwear you will be distracted for the whole 2 minutes and you won't have noticed a thing.
2. Practise the macarena or the chicken dance, as these can be performed without a constant beat.
3. Drop money on the ground and get on all fours and do a bit of a search.
4. Throw the said money at the Dj during breakdowns. (this should make you feel better).
5. Take in a minidisc player or Ipod and when the said breakdowns occur press play and listen to your favorite tracks. make sure to press stop before the build up begins again.
I hope the above was helpful as personally I'm not too worried about breakdowns however I'd like you to experience a quality night on the town when partying and this being ruined by breakdowns just be a terrible thing. |

Aaah to-whateverthehellyournameis
Funny, I were talking about trance DJ's here, and trance DJ's these days either play epic/anthem trance or psy/goa. I was talking about the epic/anthem trance dj's. Of course you know that every epic trance track has breakdowns. In an epic trance track, there is never a space of more than four minutes between each breakdown. The breakdowns in epic/anthem trance never last less than 30 seconds, and average between 1:00 and 1:45. It's not uncommon for a track to have a two minute or more breakdown. Just one of these kills the entire flow of the set. Heh. I don't take drugs.
My night isn't ruined by breakdowns, trance is. It's a tragic thing. |

| Most tracks have a breakdown usually....but most refer to it as a "Bridge". I wouldn't categorize it to just Trance music. I personally love the breakdown of a trance track, It's usually the calm before the storm. |

You're right. Most other forms of pop music have breakdowns as well. |

| Radagast, thank you for making TA forums a better world. By being the biggest cynic and here. You have successfully made other haters look mundane. |

wow, 2 arguementative trolls in one thread
first off, lots of commercial clubs are open to taking requests off people, if the "dj" dont want to play it, he wont...the thread starter didn't force the dj to do anything
anyway, i love breakdowns, they're what sets trance above the other genres i like
they do give your legs a bit of a rest, but i like what they do to my mind more than anything else
also a chance to talk like the other person said
i dont want too many breakdowns unless they're really good, as it does get a bit annoying when you want to dance more
i find it pretty sad that someone has to come onto a site called tranceaddict and call trance 'pop music', and 'people need to get over trance'? maybe you need to go to another website?
i know this place covers other genres, but check the name of the site...
