Tiesto in Concert REVEIW - and other amsteram experiences

We are finally back from Amsterdam. I dont know where to start - we had the time of our lives, so if this is long, oh well, but they are all memories i dont want to forget! It took us an entire day to get to Holland, after driving, waiting, flying, training, walking... but there we were! We all met up at the hotel - me, sky, matt, miriam (poyson IV), brian, bree, and ian. We spent friday checking out the shopping, figuring out how to get our phones to work over there, and eating expensive, unpronounceable foods.

a bum attacked brian:

Everyone except me, sky, and matt went to Tiesto in Concert on Friday. We could barely sleep -- eagerly awaiting them to get home from the concert to tell us all about it. The three of us spent our night investigating the town, the Red Light District, and the bars and smokeshops.

Me and sky split a "spacecake" and decided after about 2 hours that it was weak, and wasnt doing anything. So the three of us went to a restaurant, where it took me about 20 tries to order a drink from the bar -- they didnt know what a Long Island Iced Tea is, or any mixed drink for that matter, they dont have any flavored vodka or rum, nor do most places even understand what you mean if you ask for a "rum and diet" or "vodka and redbull" (and we found out its Cola light, not diet coke), and the most bizarre thing was that any time we ordered mix drinks, they put the liquor and soda in separate glasses, and charge you for both!

and they are soooo skimpy on their pours! not to mention you get one ice cube if you are lucky and no free refills of soda! so yeah -- it was virtually impossible for us to get drunk. But a few hours after eating the spacecake, the restaurant suddenly started getting really weird, intense, incomprehendable, and unbearable. We hurried back to the hotel, nauseus and out of our minds, and passed out. when 8:30 am came around, the tiesto-goers came up to our room and woke us, and we begged for details just to be told - "you guys are going to have so much fun, its ridiculous", and then brian threatened my life not to look at any of the pictures b/c it would "ruin it." So after absolutely no idea what we were in for, we could barely sleep. Poor brian and bree -- their little tiny room was up about a billion tiny, curving, steep flights of steps - no elevator. But they passed out for a big chunk of the day and me and janette went on a more detailed shopping spree.

We found the Cyberdog store

and i spent a billion dollars on one [really hot] outfit and it was one of the most essential parts of our trip! We recruited Ian for some shopping and let him be our tour guide and bodyguard. I only wish I would have videotaped him walking directly into some parked bicycles as he was textwhoring on his phone! me and janette busted out laughing at him and then a reckless bicylcer bitch mowed janette down! ROFL!!! Yes, if we have learned anything about amsterdam, its that bicylcers, trains, trams, and smart cars [by the way, i NEED this car in pink:
]
dont give a if they hit you or not! We almost got bike-clocked a bunch of times and and i almost got hit by a tram twice. its nuts over there. So anyway, after shopping we came back to get ready. Even though we had been planning for 2 months to wear the white furry outfits, we ended up wearing the black vinyl ones instead. Wow, if you only knew what it felt like to be laughed at, pointed at, stared at and talked about the entire night -- it was crazy. but we didnt care. the train ride was supposed to take an hour and 10 minutes.... well, since we have horrible luck, that of course, did not happen quite that way. What actually happened was the stupid train card machines were in dutch and we couldnt work them, and ian's train derailed that morning and it was being worked on - so we ended up having to transfer from a train to a bus, to a train, to a bus - took over 2 and a half hours and the whole way there sucked! but as we followed the crowds of people in their party clothes, we knew we were getting close. Finally, we pulled up in front of the most ridiculously huge building - GelreDome [pic], and i got chills. The place was mobbed. We knew TAs and tiesto.com forum members were all meeting up in the McDonalds next door so we went over to check it out. It was packed with people all for the concert. We ordered some food and a friendly guy heard us speaking English and came up and introduced himself. His name was Dan and he was originally from the States, now in the military in Germany, and he and his friends waited outside for us. they were all super-nice.. Nicki, John and his wife and a few others. We chilled with them for awhile and then found out they were VIP and we probably wouldnt see them the rest of the night. we exchanged contact info and made our way to the dome. [pic]

It was absoutely insane! Didnt take long to get in at all - 5 minutes maybe. That first step into the dome was breathtaking - overwhelming - incredible. I cant even describe it. People were just starting to come in and it wasnt crowded yet. We checked out the whole place, thinking we found the dj booth and decided to hang out by it. We saw stadium-style bleachers all around, but we didnt even realize there was a second floor, and VIP above that. Finally it was getting packed and it was 11. We stood in the middle for awhile and then realized -- that might not be the dj booth. everyone was facing the stage, with a closed curtain so we pushed our way up to the very front - and never saw matt again. A huge screen came down - we were told to put on 3-D glasses and music began. I was really stressed that i couldnt ID what i *thought* was his opening track. Then out of the screen, 3D anime, cartoons, and spirals started jumping out at us. OMG! and then there he was - on the screen - with sunglasses on, extending his headphones right out onto the person in front of me - so realistic! He was smiling ear to ear, doing some liquid with his fingertips touching us, and everyone was going nuts! a huge cartoonish face appeared on the screen and began talking... and before our eyes, it morphed into tiesto's head! so phat! Portishead - Roads really started getting the crowd going, and then Interstate - I Found You, and we were pumped, and then we really got a surprise: "45 minutes remaining" flashed on the screen -- that wasnt the opening! just a teaser! [pic]

We spotted purple balloons in front [pic] - the signal of the meetup of tiesto.com forum members, so we went up and introduced ourselves, and made some quick friends! They had us all sign a board in gel pen with messages to tiesto and presented this to him later. I wrote "We came all the way from the US to see you tiesto! we luv you!" and they handed us purple balloons to blow up. we were directly in the front row, right in the middle, and all around us the purple balloons were growing as more and more members showed up. And then the curtain went up, and the dj booth was revealed on the stage, still empty. And those first notes of his set banged out - sending chills down us and screams from the whole dome, and the announcer was announcing tiesto - named #1 dj again, 3rd year in a row, and there he was! 25000+ people went absolutely insane, tons of purple balloons we let go into the air, and we danced hardcore up in the front for more than 2 hours, before the crowd got too thick to dance and too hot to breath, so we reluctantly gave up our prime spots to go get drinks. And who do we run into -- our new friends from germany! they had abandoned VIP and were sitting in the bleachers!

We had problems with our stupid ATM cards. No one we asked knew what an "ATM" even was. We found the only one in the Gelredome and it wouldnt take our cards. I managed to get a really cute shirt as a souvenir [pic] but they couldnt get janette's credit card to work there either. grrrr. we had to ration our $$. we set out on the second floor taking pictures of random people [pic]and urging them to join the forums, and handing out groovanauts.com cards (Ruben you would be so proud of all the recruiting!) Then we did a few laps in the bleachers, looking for matt who we never found, and taking pictures from every angle. Looking down on an entire stadium packed tightly with thousands of people was mindblowing. I've never seen anything like that in my life. People were awed that we came so far to support tiesto. A lot of them take for granted that they can go to parties that big whenever they want, and we will never see anything like that in the States. We are already making plans to try to go back for Innercity in december :) The only problem we had was that we couldnt understand many people at all - it was so hard to get around or talk to people, or order drinks. But we mananged to meet quite a few nice people.

One of the highlights of my night: me, all night telling everyone that i hope he would play Walking on Clouds, and above my expectations, the singer performed that song live, as well as Sweet Misery - she was amazing! beautiful! There was another performer, a guy, whose name i dont know nor the songs he performed - but i soooo want to find out the names of those songs! All through the night, there was cool performances - Tiesto doing some "magik", girls dancing with snakes, trampoline acrobats, and all kinds of other live stuff. And when the "MAGIK" sign started blazing with flames, [pic] it was so neat! Tiesto was full of energy, dancing, having a blast, smiling at the crowd and feeding off everyones' vibe. He played banging tracks, one after the other, he was relentless! Me and janette danced everywhere in that dome, on every balcony and then finally ended up back in the very front right before he began his encore. but after only being there about half an hour, i almost passed out from the heat and left janette to go dance on the sides by our germany friends where there was lots of room and cool air. Finally, it was time for his encore.

WHAT. A. ING. ENCORE.

many others
and then he ended with Silence! it was so ing perfect!

I must have danced the hardest that last hour. it was unbelieveable. i couldnt have asked for a more perfect night.

The ride home absoutely blew. First we couldnt find the train. Then we found it, sat on it unmoving forever and had to get off because some jackass pulled the emergency brake. We found people who said they were going to amsterdam too and followed them onto the wrong train which stopped at a dead end. Finally by dumb luck we met a really cool guy who helped us get home. It took forever.

The next day the whole group of us hung out. Did more shopping, walked around, got high, drunk, and whatever else, and the whole bunch of us wearing our AMSTERDAM jackets -- ing tourists, lol. That was a really fun night. Bree's brother mitch also joined us. We went to a bunch of bars, some were cool and some sucked, we went to a peepshow in the red light district and watched some fat old guy some beat-up skanky girl, and basically just walked around looking for something to do. The highlight of the night was going into the bar at the Grasshopper and watching Brian and Ian get macked on by the scariest , scummiest dude ever. and oh yeah-- I HAVE VIDEOS -- soon to be posted!

THE VIDEOS:
ian owned
brian owned

tiesto on a coke can:

Some of the group went to bed, a bunch of us continued the party back in the hotel and basically got no sleep. i walked bree, brian, and mitch to the train station and ian to his hotel and then met up with the girls for yet MORE shopping and walking around a park.

Bought tons of souvenirs and took tons of pics. I think this review is already long enough so we'll leave it at that, unless i remember any other incriminating stories i want to tell before brian and ian come home and kill me for it ;) but yeah - i'm working on the pics now and will upload them within in the hour. :) :) :)

oh and by the way.... now we are ALL very much considering going back next month for Innercity! Pricing airlines right now!
