I don't mean to rehash this subject, but I felt the need to clearly express my dissenting opinion about this temporary ban on political subjects in the montreal forum.
First of all, Fast, let me clearly state that I've been here long enough to appreciate the good work that you've done as a moderator. I understand that things can sometimes get out of hand, and in general, you do a more than decent job to keep this room under control.
Having said that, in this specific instance, I must completely disagree with your decision to impose this ban, which is tantamount to censure and collective punishment, in the virtual sense of course. Simply because two or three people can't have civilized discussions about topics regarding politics without flaming each other certainly does not mean that the entire forum should be punished for their shortcomings. There are more than enough posters in this forum that have mutual respect for each other and that can conduct civilized debate for political topics to actually be constructive rather than destructive with regards to general room atmosphere. For those who can't, they should be banned after appropriate warning. In this way, those people who insist on using this forum as their personal playground to amuse themselves while destroying any similee of online communal tolerance are eliminated without punishing those who are not in the wrong.
At any rate, I hope that you will reconsider your decision, especially tonight seeing as the US elections are being contested as we speak. I'm sure you agree that what happens in the US does affect us in Montreal, and thus is a relevant topic to be discussed in this forum. The presumption of course is that discussion does not degenerate into overt and lascivious flaming, which is where you would come in to play with your moderating rather than censuring powers. |

| Sim, the point is not that we don't understand "no political threads". The point that I'm trying to make questions the rationale behind "no political threads". I'm merely stating why I beleive "no political threads" is unfair to those people who can actually discuss political topics in a civilized manner. |

Well, I was not aware that my exact point was made before. But regarless, I still disagree with you about it not being necessary to argue for now, since not arguing is tantamount to accepting the fate you've been dealt, a fate that is unfair in my opinion, and which sets dangerous precedents in the future.
At any rate, I know you understand my point, so I'll just leave it at that. |

as we say in french : ce sont toujours les bons qui paient pour les mauvais :)
but we also say : y'a que les cons qui ne changent pas d'avis :)
sur ce je déclare le retour de la politique parmis nos discussions
in english
the restriction on political threads is now over
enjoy it but don't abuse it :)
p.s. : the us results discussion is gonna be a good test to see who's gonna behave and not ... en francais simplifié pour les concernés : paroles scandaleuses et/ou propagande = ban |
