It really is not. Being a US citizen does have its advantages. Economically speaking, per capita the US is leaps and bounds ahead of almost ever other nation on the planet. The US is one of the few countries on this planet that affords every individual, despite their origin or social status, the ability to amass great wealth for him and his family providing he or she has ambition and work ethic necessary to succeed.
I come from a humble background, both my parents being immigrants who came to this country knowing nearly nothing about the culture or language. Twenty-five years later my parents, while not wealth by any respects, at least own their own home and earn a decent living. To their only child, they afforded a University education, and an opportunity to commence my own business, which after only over a year after graduating college I’m on pace to earn close to six figures in gross salary annually.
The only downside I really see to being an American is the cold shoulder the rest of the world gives American citizens as a result of the hubris our leader exudes and acts upon. As I’m writing this it does not look very good for John Kerry (who, by the way, I voted for) and our last opportunity to rid ourselves of Bush, as the president seems to be enjoying a slight lead in Ohio. However, while I still don’t see being an American as a “sad” thing, I agree that our standing and respectability on the international scene is in a calamitous state, at least until we finally get rid of W in 2008. |

| CBS and CNN are listing Bush as having won Nevada, put that with Fox's claim of Ohio and bush has won by 4 electoral votes over 270 as of now. |

Even I, and I am from Holland, cannot believe that so many of you Americans voted for the biggest moron on the surface: George W. Bush... After all the damage he's done! But well, it's your country going to hell, and our prime minister has to suck up to George for another 4 years and more 'war against terrorism' (that has gone completely out of hand!!!).
