Im not into mainstream or commercial trance music at all.
But i let a neighbor of mine listen to some of my stuff(whom is a musician) and he tells me my stuff is too dark and the way he put it was "its so dark its under underground"
so he tells me if i want to get an audience or get signed by a label an all.
he tells me i should get more mainstream sounding soft synths
his suggestions were korg,yamaha,roland etc?
he feels my specialty synths will limit me from making only one genre of music since they are basically trance synths?
does anyone feel this way ,i mean i dont want to sound mainstream
at all its not my thing.
i want to make underground tracks but he is saying you should look into other main stream synths. As he puts it so i can branch off into other more uplifting genres!
to have my stuff on the radio or in the clubs.

first question is, what synths do you have ?
because you can create a wide variety of sounds with almost every synth |

And I who thought there were labels for all kind of music... Honestly, your music is probably only too dark for your neighbour and the rest of the folks who like it uplifting. There are on the other hand folks and labels who like it dark as well. Make it dark if you want it dark. Cheese seems to come out of every little hole these days. :)
EDIT: Sorry for not being able to answer your question though... |

i like dark. i like filthy music. if you make really good filthy music, chances are ill buy it. and so will alot of my friends. do not listen to your mate's advice. its irrelevant the style of your music as long as what you write is competant and well put together.
and yes. most synths are capable of a mind boggling variety of sounds if you are willing to dive in and experiment. you really dont need very many synths at all. i write euphric trance to freeform to hardcore to dirty dirty DIRTY drum and bass and most of it is on vanguard, albino and the zeta+ demo. granted my stuff aint that good but if i can get such a variety of sounds out of 3 synths that i havent even taken to the limits, imagine what you can do with time and patience? astonishing variety on zeta+ alone. its gotta be the number of oscillators and the number of effects or something. the number of permutations are almost infinite. its sick what you can do with it. my mind just reels from the thought of ever mastering it in programming terms. |

| Agree with derivitive... Vanguard and Zeta are all quality and with all the patches and crazy sounds you can get out of it you should be quite happy. |

yeah i agree with you guys a lot of people just arent into it.
and i also dont think if im into dark underground type trance that i should have to make some mainstream tracks to crossover to different audiences either.
Im just gonna stick to what im doing.
im using V-station
Vanguard
Zeta 3
Triangle
i also have Absynth
pro 53
and superwave but dont like them as much

| thats nice. all those synths are characteristically techy and grimey. good good. tried the v-station demo but around that time i was getting into vanguard and forgot about it. i should try that one out again... |

the thing is most sites only will take a mp3 and for some reason the mp3 encoder that came with my sequencer is not working(that may be due to the fact its a trial version)
but do anyone know any places to down load encoders or sites that wil laccept .wav riffs
let me know cause i would like to post my stuff (and i dont think my stuff is that dark anyways but at least youll have an idea and know what category it would fall under.
