Pdx Vs. Technics

Hey .. Im New In The Forum , Great Forum ... ;)
Hmm I have a problem ..
i want tot buy turntables
and i want to know if the pdx 2000 (vestax)
is a good one ?
because where i live the TECHNICS is very exspensive ...
so if someone can tel me whats the different and if the pdx is good to buy ..

Not being an ass, but please search man, theres loads of posts on here about those decks, BUT if the search doesn't work, then flame me and then somebody will answer your question.
EDIT: I never used them before, but I do know there a very good deck. |

hmm i know to do mix with the beat the chatch que and all thats
harmonic mix is to do with the melody? |

if you are looking at the pdx2300 mk2 pro, then do not look any further for decks. i think it is the best deck on the market at the moment bar none.
any other deck from the pdx range will be amazing though. i own standard pdx2000's and i find them better to use than technics, and a damn site less hard on the wallet!
the main differences are:
pdx has ultrapitch, with +/-10% fine pitch even at +50%. technics has +/-8%, no ultrapitch, which can be annoying if you have some tracks that won't go fast enough. and i dont care what people say, even if you dont play fast music there are ALWAYS tunes you CANT play because you are using a technics deck :p
pdx2000 has an ASTS tonearm (straight tonearm) which gives much much better tracking. great for quick cueing and scratching, it never skips and sounds ing great. the 2300mk2 pro has a J arm, which offers a bit of the best of both a straight arm, and the s shaped arm. straight arms do cause slightly more record wear, although if you choose the right carts its not really such an issue. the technics have the s-shaped arm, which while decreases record wear, will skip more often and ultimatly has more to go wrong with it (see all the problems that technics users have with torque screws and anti-skate. this is non-existent with ASTS arms).
technics have 1.5kg/cm of torque, the pdx2000 has 2kg/cm, while the new pdx mk2's have 2.7kg/cm. this is mainly down to what you are used to, or personal preference. personally i like that extra bit of torque, it makes minor alterations a little easier (with a technics deck you have to be very gentle with it).
the pdx2300 has a digital pitch display, and a little fine adjustment joystick so you dont have to touch the record.
the vestax deck also has start/brake speed adjustment on the top of the deck. with a technics you can only adjust the brake speed, and to do that you have to get a screwdriver out. useless for doing brake tricks.
the vestax has a reverse function, which opens up a bit more creativity.
the technics gives out slightly better sound quality, and the motor will last a bit longer. both will last you years anyway.
in short, both decks are really good and you won't be dissapointed with either, but IMO if you like to be creative with your sets, the vestax is definitely the better option, and costs a bit less too. |

Harmonic mixing is to do with matching tracks together by the main key of the track, which makes for a smooth mix, think of a piano with the keys, press one of the keys on the far right (being the record on your right deck) and now one on the far left (being the record on the left deck), they would be 2 very different sounds "keys" and they won't go together nicely, but if you make sure that both records are coming from the same key (the one you press on piano) then they will match and blend nicely, I ain't veru good at explaining this, there better threads on this than the crap I just said, just check the top of the forum.
As for the PDX, strange it didn't churn up anything, I do know that it has been talked about many times on here, but sometimes it is hard to find what your looking for, but sit tight and somebody will help you out. |
