Sharpton on Bush Win: 'Let's Get Out of the Country'

Hours after the election returns showed that a Bush win was inevitable, Rev. Al Sharpton told a reporter for the Black Press USA Network: "Let’s all head to the airport and get out of the country."

The remark was supposedly delivered in a facetious tone, but Sharpton said he had serious concerns about a second Bush term. "I think we are in for some serious times. He will appoint judges to the Supreme Court that I think will try to erode some of the gains we made under the Civil Rights Movement and he clearly will have economic policies that will reward the rich. If there ever was a time that we had to gear up activism and put pressure on Congress like we’ve never done before, now is the time.”

Democratic strategist Donna Brazile seemed to agree with Sharpton that Bush was largely hostile to black America.

"Expect four more years of benign neglect,” she told Black Press USA. "Expect four more years of a hostile relationship, four more years of not having anybody inside the White House to talk to"

The Bush-bashing former Gore campaign manager added:

"We’re not looking for any changes with George Bush because George Bush has made it clear that he doesn’t want the Black vote, he doesn’t seek the Black vote and he doesn’t seek any support from Black leaders. It’s sad to think, but that’s where we are.”

it's all talk. all these goons that say its time to MOVE OUT OF THE USA are just bitching, and they all know they're staying here :p

just like Kerry, flippers - say one thing, then change their mind.

I'm afraid some of these people leaving the country might take control of some airplanes and hit some important buildings. Like the White House for example. :D

Bush hasn't really done much for the hispanics or african americans, or asians for that matter. So eh, they have a reason to be kinda pissed off.

Omegasox
Oh god I hope he does.
State of Matter
Yeah, he's completely apathetic. He understood that even without the minority vote he could still win.

What's weird is a lot of minorities DID vote for him, which I guess says something about Kerry as a candidate.

Majority of them voted because of the gay marraige / abortion issues.

What's wrong with flip-flopping if it is made on rational, well thought out reasoning, and changing situations?

Sticking to your guns is not always the best decision, no? :p

In this case, I believe all the threats to move out are based on heated passions and disappointment, with no real substance behind them.

Now if one is simply being hypocritical or double-speaking, I can see how this kind of flip-flopping is bad.

The hispanics are trending towards Republicans because hispanics are the strongest Catholics in the country. The party of abortion, for some reason, just doesn't appeal to them. Plus, the Republicans have always had the Cuban vote. AND, the hispanics are the minority group that's least receptive to affirmative action. Many want to make it on their own. The Republicans are not too far from capturing the fastest-growing segment of the US population.

The Republicans have also increased their black vote, although the totals are still pretty dismal. Many blacks are culturally conservative, and the gay marriage issue resonates in the churches. Plus, people are starting to believe the line that 'abortion was/is the black holocaust.' (Which is the absolute truth, when you consider how much larger they'd be as a minority group if they didn't have the highest abortion rate.)

Bush manipulated 'jesus people' to advance his economic agenda end of story.

Have you ever thought that there might be another issue other than abortion, gay marriage and terror that was on the minds of voters this year? I thought it might be a good idea to vote for Kerry this year since I agree with his ideas to reduce healthcare costs more than just blame it on trial lawyers, who only result in 1% of the costs of increases, but apparently that's all W is going to do.

Bush manipulated everything. That's what hes been doing from day one. And you know, I have to hand it to them. A lot of the things they were doing I laughed at and said what morons, but it turns out they were right (in terms of playing those cards, not on the issues) and had calculated areas I did not even consider or even know existed!
