Don't get assaulted in Scarborough and expect help from the cops. I designate Scarborough an independent third world country after hearing this.
| quote: | She went to police, claiming her husband was threatening to kill her. Officers assured her an arrest would be made, but five hours later, a vicious domestic attack took place.
And now friends and family of the victim are looking for answers from police. They believe a prompt arrest would have saved the woman from her eventual fate - a brutal beating in an axe and hammer attack and an extended stay in hospital, where she remains in stable condition.
Police received a 911 call around dinner time Wednesday night, and found the 53-year-old woman badly hurt in her residence at 5 Baylawn Dr. Her husband was placed under arrest.
The victim went to police earlier that morning, warning of the husband’s allegedly violent intentions. Cops took statements and planned to arrest him shortly after 2pm.
“By the time she left work it was 4pm,” explained a family friend. “She again called (police) to find out if he was taken into custody. They said no, he hadn't been yet.”
Authorities say they told the victim not to go back to the house under any circumstances until her husband was in custody. But as her friend explained, motherly duties lured her back.
“She had to go home at 6pm to feed her disabled daughter,” she explained. “And then when she went home (her) husband attacked her with the hammer and the axe.”
Friends of the woman went back to the domestic response officers looking for anwers.
“She (the officer) said it's Scarborough. We're busy,” the friend attested.
The couple involved had been married 34 years with three adult kids. Police haven't released any names.

Meanwhile Oakville has more cops than people and not a day goes by that i dont see them set up in a speed trap.
If i ever see a speed trap in Scarborough i'll laugh. They have time to get those evil speeders but sorry lady, you'll have to face an axe on your own. |

this story is disgusting.
IMHO, never phone the police and expect immediate action unless weapons and/or serious injury are involved (ie. injury that's already happened).
it obviously shouldn't be this way...but if you want action, mention a weapon. If she had said "he said he's going to shoot/stab me the moment I walk through the door and he's starving my disabled daughter"...they'd probably have been there in minutes, not hours. |

That's terrible, I'm glad she's ok. Someone should be to blame for this. It should be their first priority for preventing such crimes.
From the cop's point of view, I'm sure they get thousands of calls from angry wives who just fought (verbally) with their husband, and they want to have him arrested just because she's pissed off at him. I've seen this happen, and I heard it happens alot. Maybe that's what they thought here, I don't know it's a possibility.
I hope he (the husband) spends a long time locked away getting his ass kicked and raped, that would be nice. |

i notice a media bias when it comes to covering crime in 'Scarborough', whenever there's an incident there they always refer to it as Scarborough.. but when something happens in let's say Rexdale, or Humber they don't call it 'Etobicoke', or if something happens in Cabbagetown, they don't call it 'Toronto', Thornhill is not known as 'Markham', etc..
Scarborough is comprised of district areas just like other parts of Toronto .. Agincourt, Rouge Valley, Malvern, the Beaches, etc .. some are worse than others (like Malvern), some like my area are completely fine .. but whenever crimes are reported, the media always reports it as being just 'Scarborough' without being specific as to where exactly in Scarborough the crime took place. I mean the borough is the size of Etobicoke and larger than downtown Toronto in total land area!
anyways .. i read this story in the paper this morning on my way to work and couldn't help but to think about the pain this woman went thru..

Hmm... I thought that when she went to the police station, she brought a "gun" to hand in to the cops along with her complaint about her husband.I would think that THAT would certainly raise red flags & the cops would then go to her house asap... |

| My jaw dropped when this story came on the evening news. Not so much at police (in) action, but at how horrifying the attack was. |
