Fruity Loops Processor Usage
View this Thread in Original format

I have a xp 2800+ and 512mb ram and i'm making a song in fruity which is pretty small and uses not many vst's but is still using up 95-100% of my processor making it crakle and such. Is there anything I can do software wise to decrease the processor usage a bit? Or maybe buy more ram would do it?

I've heard of a VST called FX-Freeze which decreases the CPU usage.
Im not sure if it works, installed it, but never checked..

Hi Ken, I posted a similar article up just the other day - http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...threadid=219533!

It isn't about crakle...it works fine at around 50 - 70 when it gets up to 80 - 100 it crakles when I move something around

The buffer rate is set where I want it :D

You don't set it to where you want it, you set it to where it works properly.

Well software wise you can try are decries the usage of effects, you can do that by applying the same effects channel on multiple sounds. You can also try turning off some of the effects which are not being used at the moment
Also see which of your plugins are taking the biggest amount of CPU usage and try to use it less.

Hardware wise adding some more RAM could do the trick, you could also consider buying yourself a new soundcard.

i dont understand why so many people here suggest adding RAM as a viable solution to a CPU problem. the only thing extra RAM will do is allow you to load more samples, plugins and sounfonts into memory although if you are touching 90-100% cpu (as you will inevitably do) it doesnt really matter because the CPU is the bottleneck.

suggestions. turn off all animated mouse thingys (in fact try not to move the mouse around too much b/c it uses quite a bit of cpu. if you go nuts with the mouse when CPU load is high you will notice it getting worse.

turn the timebase down. default in floops is 96. try 24. you must however write ALL of your material in the same timebase otherwise note lengths will change and it'll sound fuccked up.

decrease polyphony. some hosts allow you to limit polyphony whilst working on the song and then turn this feature off when you render. high polyphony on vsti's like vanguard and zeta are the big killers. plink down some 11th chords on vanguard with high poly, on a pad setting with high detune and it'll destroy your computer. turn the poly down and it'll hurt the cpu alot less but it will sound flatter.
