Yesterday on my way to class I was approached by a guy asking me if I would like
to make $1000-$1500 a month on 10-15 hours a week. I said sure, and he said he
was recruiting for his marketing group. I told him what kind of experience I
had as far as jobs and he asked for my number to schedule an interview. Even
though this sounded somewhat strange, I went along with it. He called me that
night and asked about my intership and if I liked working with people and
things like that. After chatting for awhile, he asked if I would meet with him
for an interview and he would tell me what his
company. I said sure, and today I went there after class.
When I showed up he explained to me what exactly his business entailed. He said
that the company he worked for was called SAC Global Marketing and what they
basically did was sell communication services of a less known provider. What you did was sign up with them and find
people to switch their internet/telephone/long distance to this company, and you got
part of the profit. After you had acquired maybe 5-10 customers, you moved on
to recruiting more people to do what you did. For each new recruit, you got
$50. after 3, you got $100. After 6, you got $150. On top of that, your
recruits recruiting people each earned you $50-100 after that indefinitely. You
also received a cut of their profits through signing people up. Even more
bonuses were offered for signing certain amounts of people up within certain
timeframes.
What his suggestion to me was to find a small group of people who would switch
to their services and then begin trying to find people to recruit. From what it
looked like, you could be making quite a bit of money. I asked him how many he
had at this point and he said around 70. He said this was his only job, and he had quit school. He even mentioned that he was considering retirement by age 25 (he was 20).
Personally, I thought the whole business was shady and I turned him down. It
just sounded like basically trying to sucker people into changing
telecommunication services, and then passing on the same responsibility to
others. It did look like there was a great deal of money involved. If you were
able to find 5 people in the first month you could potentially make over two
thousand dollars. In addition, you were receiving that residual income (2-8%)
from you and your recruits' service bills, in addition to any of them signing
anyone else on. Even if you were three times removed from someone down the line
signing up 10 people, you still made $500 from it.
I'm still kind of baffled by the whole deal . . what do you guys make of this? |
