hey guys, whats up? im just starting to learn how to DJ and i need some advice about a mixer. i have been reading this board for a while and i gather that i should proally get a numark or vestax mixer. im going to mix house, trance, hard house, stuff like that. i know that im going to want a 3 band eq on each channel and headphone cueing but i dont know how many channels or what a good mixer to buy is. i took everyones advice though about not buying ty equiptment to start off with now. right now all i have is 2 sl1200's and ortofon needles. i also started buying some vinyl, i proally have like 25-30 to start off with. anyway this is the deal i dont really have any money right now, proally 50-100 bucks to buy a mixer with so i know im going to need a used one, but i really wanna start djing now. i know i have good equiptment now and getting a ty mixer is a mistake, but i can always save up and buy a low end rane mixer or allan and heath (what i would idealy do). anyway so does anyone have a used mixer for sale that would be decent enough for me to use?? or have any suggestions on what model i should get or where i can get one. ebay?? thanks guys.

My suggestion, not only to you, but to everyone else in the market for any kind of DJing product. Save your money, dont bother with the cheap stuff. Save up another $200 and get a Numark Matrix 3. Dont make the same mistake alot of other people make, people are in such a hurry to start spinning? Where are you in a hurry to? Your next big gig? Be realistic. Save and wait. Took me 5 months to get 2 Technics and another 4 to get a Xone:62 mixer and another 4 to get the headphones, carts, mats, etc... (all the accessories).

In all honesty, getting cheap equipment is pointless because you wont be able to get rid of it when you want to upgrade.

you can get rid of it quite easily.. out the window.

as far as cheap kit goes, its always better to shell out on a good mixer and have cheaper decks i think. but have a look at the vestax vmc002, its a great little budget mixer.

Wow hold on a sec. Don't say like you need this or that brand. Every brand has it's good products, but they also have some that sucks. For instance, the Gemini PS-626i is by far the best budgetmixer ever. However the PS-540i sucks ass (no equalizing on the headphone). Numark has built ty mixers for ages. When they finished the PPD and DXM mixers, I figured they're starting to understand how the job's done. Vestax is pretty expensive, plus a lot of their mixers also don't have equalizing on the headphone. The PCV-275 is a véry good mixer though.

My advice: If you're beginning, get the Gemini PS-626i. It is definetly the best budgetmixer I've seen. They're pretty reliable (do cover budgetmixers with a rag, because budgetfaders are very sensitive to dust) and they don't cost . It's the only Gemini mixer that's worth recommending (the FX-7000 seems to be pretty good too, although I haven't tested it so I'm not recommending it).

If you would like to take it a step higher, an American Audio Q-D5 is a good bet. The Numark DXM-mixers are also worth it.

THEN if you wanna take it higher up, get a PCV-275, maybe a Dateq XTC if you're Dutch. Allen & Heath's are great too, but VERY expensive. The Nuo 5 is also awesome, but probably way out of your league.

So, if you're new, get a PS-626i. :)

One product you should NEVER EVER BUY are Behringer VMX and DX mixers. I've seen hundreds of ppl buying that stuff, and I've seen hundreds of mixers with worn-out leaking faders, left and right completely out of balance, stuff like that. Especially that Pioneer clone is terrible, ing piece of . The Matrix 3 by Numark is definetly not my favorite as well. When it comes to tu_face's Vestax, I haven't tested that one so I can't judge it. However, and I give you my word, the PS-626i features everything you need and it's affordable. Rather that one than a ty Stanton.

Hey Vash, haven't seen you around in awhile.

I'd like to recommend a Ecler Smac20 if you can spend abit more, its around the same price as a DXM06, doesn't have effects, but is awesome in every other way.

well youve alredy got 2 1200s and the needles, you're spinning my kinda stuff, and you have enough records to make for a good mix session

id suggest going with a 3channel mixer at the least unless you have two other input sources that you know youre gonna be using constantly and need that 4th channel

Vestax makes a couple that have a pretty good rep on this forum, the 175 has a few less features than the 275 and is cheaper but if you have the money for the 275 you'll probably hear alot of people telling you to go for it

most 2channel mixers are geared for scratch DJs and are really basic as far as controls go, with just about any 3 and 4ch that you find, you might notice you get more options are far as effects and other things you can use to spiff up your set

my advice...dont get anything less than a 3ch;)

Yes DannyO I missed you too :)

The smac is awesome as well (I haven't found ONE crappy Ecler mixer). It's a choice in which only your personal opinion matters :).
