mp3 player recording live sets - feasible?

| Are there any mp3 players or any small digital recording devices that can record a average length set. I'm thinking about getting one and bringing it into club. They're normally pretty small and inconspicuous so I'm thinking bouncers won't notice. Anyone ever done anything like this? How would the sound quality be? |

Minidiscs can do it.
Ipods can do it, but you need to buy some external thing for it. |

| My iriver can do it, either through external mic, internal mic (crappy), line-in (awesome), or optical in(awesme)....assuming you can get up to the mixer and plug in your player to their line/optical out, that's the way to go. |

Hahaha...imagine replacing that picture where the buff dude is reaching out to light sashas cancer stick, with some skinny computer geek stretching up to plug his mp3 player into the back of the clubs mixer...ahhh times have changed. |

so an external mic is better than the internal?
i returned mine because the internal mic ed up the recording when the player was moved as it recorded, meaning dancing and recording was not possible
the creative muvo had a mic also |

| Recording with a mic? Are you retarded? The sound quality is going to be worse than AM radio |

The internal mic will pick up the noise generated by the unit itself, the external mic will not (assuming you're smart and place it away from the recorder). I'd also recommend getting an aftermarket mic.

As opposed to hooking up your player to the mixer without permission and getting kicked out of the club? |

Using optical cable would be the best option for you.
Otherwise just go with coaxial. |

All this is possible, But that depends, If you have VIP access to the booth, There just not gonna let someone come up to the booth and let the person plug the recorder to the mixer, Cause maybe the DJ doesnt want his set recorded due to there being some unrelease tracks that they don't want spreading all over the net. |

hmm, but i've already returned it :)
about the sound quality, i was surpised at how good the quality of the i-river's recording, without the rattling sound it would be very listenable (well it recorded from my stereo very well)
the creative however sounds like... |

Just check the average site and look after "recording: yes"
easy as that |
