It is not worth gaining redundancy at the loss of I/O throughput. I'll take a loss of a days worth of post every couple of years versus having the board slow down.
Web content is on one HD, forums are on 2 other drives, raid-0 (striped). |

doesnt using raid-0 theoretically double the chance of losing data? and ive read reviews were raid-0 isnt that much faster than running raid in redundancy modes... |

Yes, but raid-0(striping) is faster in all instances. A hard drive didn't 'die' so to speak, I just put the announcement like that so most ppl would know what happened... In reality the persistent-superblock and/or partition table on the first drive in the raid array got fux0red because I had to do a hard reboot on the system - since mysql was stuck in an infinite loop and ate up all system resources - it should've came up fine, but didn't, and everything I tried gave a dead end.
