This is probably a sure fire way to start a new thread that'll get no replies, but nevertheless:

Can anybody review some of the CDs in it or the box as a whole? Been pondering on exploring noise a bit further, and Merzbow seems to be a good place to start. |

As far as I have heard Merzbow creations (you can hardly call em productions :p),2 or 3, they weren't bad at all, as far as Noise goes it is very atmospheric and it gave me a feeling of something lurking waiting to jump at you. It does get quite boring for me after 3 tracks.
I'd check out Ah Cama-Sotz & Iszoloscope - Camanecroszcope, it's more Industrial orientated and has a heavy ambient feeling to it, much more interesting imo. |

Cool, cheers for the info. I've been wanting to check out his Silent Recs. release with PGR (Kim Cascone) and Asmus Tietchens, but can't seem to find it :/ I guess those will give me somewhat of a clue what's on it though. |

lol, good luck finding that box for less than 450$ anywhere :p
in general, merzbow's releases are often hit or miss for me. he's got lots of good stuff, and also huge piles of boring crap in his discography. but for a quick start, i personally recommend listening to (if you're ever able to find 'em, of course)
the science of disecting society, which he produced together with texas' most famous noise guru richard ramirez.
venereology, one of his harshest works to this date.
pulse demon, very atmospheric and haaaarsh.
1930, classic merzbow. very good.
"sha mo 3000" (unfortunately, not on discogs yet)
dharma, essential release, imo.
merzzow
but to be completely honest, there are a lot of noise artists out there that are far better and more talented than merzbow. he is the one who started the whole thing (basically), but the greatest he ain't. |

I've heard alot of people complain about it, I couldn't throw so much money on any artist and I find Merzbow a bit to monotone to actually listen to a whole record of him. |

Agreed, releasing 50 CDs of noise at once is just a wee bit overambitious. While you do get a bunch of other exclusive stuff in the box, like a medallion, t-shirt, a specially designed coin etc. etc., it's still not enough for me to spend several hundred $ on. |

Wow...if you want to explore noise I'd start with something cheaper. Even if I had that much money, I wouldn't throw it away on such a thing |
