Here's a trick, the only one you'll ever need to know. It's called experimentation. It's a 1-step procedure and can produce endless results. Here's how to do it:
1. Try something
2. Repeat

Sorry for the sarcasm, but I couldn't help it( a little under the influence). Seriously though...the first step to developing new 'tricks' and mixing techniques is to be comfortable with your own music...in other words, understand your own style first...is it hard, smooth, flowing, chopped...different methods of mixing call for different techniques. Listening to DJ sets helps too...you can figure out a transition without the stress of experimental delay(you know...re-cuing, the time it takes for the transition to go through etc...) and have a sense of what could be done to add your own flavor or touch.
The safest thing to do is to just try ing around with whatever you think MIGHT sounds cool. Then build on that.
