My sister came across this link today from an article in the Montreal Mirror years ago, reminiscing the days when she lived in the city.. Many names I am not particularly familiar with, but some of you will find it a fun read I'm sure. :)

Montreal Mirror - the Who's who of Montreal nightlife -90's

I thought this comment about MC Mario was funny:

"The house scene hated him early on in the decade, made fun of him, called him hi-----NRG (the ultimate insult). But now that the same music gets played at Sona and on the Party Mix, and MC Mario is a millionaire and XL is not, who's the one laughing? "

or the early beginnings of 514..

Somewhere around 1996, three of the most influential one-off promoters in the city got together: The Hardcore Crew, Spectro and hoolie-about-town Crazy Eddy. Their creation was the first mega-promotions group the post-rave Montreal club scene had to grapple with. In the equation, there was the good: like the bringing-to-life of ailing new club Sona in 1996. And there was the not-so-good: the subsequent pushing out of smaller-scale promoters, unable to compete. 514 remain the main force behind Sona, and also throw the mega-rave Swirl and the Cream Festival annually. After some troubles with the law (something about a gun and Jello Bar--don't ask), Crazy Eddy is no longer with 514. However the team still get called "The Backstreet Boys of Clubland Montreal," even without Eddy's interesting facial hair and loop earrings adding that extra completeness to the comparison.
