msnbot is pretty stupid, it ranks up there with dir.com's spider.
Anyways, Google (at one point) was no better, in that I had to set up filters depending on useragent for certain files (member.php/editpost.php/etc) because it was draining resources on the server - I'd just redirect them to a 0 byte txt file if they requested those.
rj's suggestion about exclusion is a good one, but, some spiders ignore robots.txt
As for bandwidth issues, if it is a webpage it shouldn't impact much on your monthly usage, unless of course, you don't have mod_gzip/mod_deflate enabled |

He.. Looks like MS still has a lot of work to do to catch up(mind you, this query was problematic for Google a few years ago as well. These days Google catches those types of problems). |
