VSampler=BEST sampler! & GigaStudio 3 Warning!!

Long time GigaStudio user here now switching over to VSampler. VSampler is extremely stable and easy to use (much easier than Kontakt and HALion). The best thing I've discovered so far is that the auditioning of vsampler instruments is AMAZINGLY fast and simple!! This feature saves so much time! Just imagine having hundreds (or thousands) of samples and to audition what they sound like, all you have to do is press the up/down key and the sound ready for you to play on your midi keyboard!!
If anyone is looking for a great soft sampler, FORGET HALion and Kontakt. VSampler owns.
A warning to potential GigaStudio 3 buyers!!! Don't EVEN bother with GS3!! If you are running WinXP, it will seriously mess you up!! Not only is GS3 extremely unstable, but it's drivers lock WinXP over time even when the program isn't running!! Tascam's customer service is a pile of donkey dung too. You do NOT want to support a company that makes such crappy software and incredulous claims as offering the world's "best" software sampler. That is a lie. Even if you upgrade from GS160, you are still forced to pay way too much money. Do NOT get screwed like I did for buying GS3. If you want specifics about what you'll encounter with GS3, pm me and I'll be glad to tell you.
Cheers!

I'm surprised GS3 works on your station TranceMasterUk. I'll try doing a complete clean install of all drivers after I get GS3 installed again. The thing is that the stupid software maintains a database of gig files. The way it maintains this database conflicts with windows explorer on my system and eventually freezes it. I can't go more than 5 minutes without having to reboot my computer manually!! I eventually end up having to uninstall it just to use my computer at all!
Another gripe I have about GS in general is that whenever I make gig files from my wav samples, the sample editor doesn't always import them into the gig file in alphanumeric order. For example, I have samples of basses from C2-C5 and they MUST be in ascending order. When I import wav files in the GS editor, it won't always place my samples in alphanumeric order as it should! I get the following result:
01_HAUS_BASSE_C1
18_HAUS_BASSE_F2
02_HAUS_BASSE_Db1
03_HAUS_BASSE_D1
04_HAUS_BASSE_Eb1
...
yeah - no kidding!! GS editor switches #2 and #18. To make sure GS editor wasn't making a mistake, I did a trial gig file make of 50 wav files numbered 01.wav, 02.wav, ... 50.wav. Sure enough, GS editor swapped numbers! This seems to be completely random and I have no idea how to fix this problem. |

I'm using M-Audio's Audiophile 2496 (just as their website recommends). I uninstalled the drivers, installed GS3, then installed the drivers. However, the program crashes while rebuilding the database. I also have problems with GS160, like the updating the database functionality messes with windows explorer and locks it up or I get an initialization error and have to reinstall the software just to get it to work again!!!) I give up. The load time is too long (1/2 a minute in most cases!!!!), it's unstable (crashToPissPeopleOff() must have been a VERY commonly called function in the source code), and I can't get a response from tascam (they are probably writing GS 3.5 right now to have longer load times and crash more).
I didn't mean to turn this into a tascam-bash, but like I said earlier - potential GS buyers beware!! :whip:
VSampler has much more appeal each time I use it. It's a lot easier to import wav files to make .vsi files, AKAI imports are a breeze, the load time is almost nothing, and the best thing I've found is the absolute ease of previewing samples!! This software is amazing!! It's exactly like browsing through patches on my virus - all you do is press a button and it replaces the current sample with another!!! Another benefit is that you can have as many instances of VSampler as you need. So if one sample requires effects, you simply load the effects on that instance and it doesn't affect other instances of VSampler. Lastly, when you save a music project in Sonar, you don't have to reload VSampler when you reopen your music project. NOW THAT'S A JOLLY GOOD SAMPLER!!! :) |
