I'd recommend the Shure SC35C, my buddy (J:\Digital) has them and they are very good for the price, only abit more than the 500s.

Oh yea for sure, shure over stanton hands down. Are you looking for stantons? or carts in general?

I had a sc35c and a 520sk. To be honest, the sc35c was horriable on cue burn. Even though the stanton was somewhat bad at cue burn too, it didn't nearly do as much damage as the shure counterpart. Also It's been well proven, that stanton 500 series are some of the most durable carts on the market (btw, i got a beaten up 15year old stanton 500AL and it still works)
