I hate Crobar (a review....)

OK, I went to Crobar last night to see Sander K, waited on line with Tony, Erin and Liz in the rain at like 11:30. When we got up to the bouncer he told Tony to step off the line because he didn't like what Tony was wearing, the bouncer specifically said that he wanted guys wearing "button down shirts".
So we stepped off the line, and I went over to the bouncer to talk to him for a second. Now, at this point in my clubbing career I know how to properly speak to a bouncer -calmly and with a respect that he is working and has a difficult job. I pointed to the fact that we were there with two girls, (two guys, two girls is a ratio they like) I also told him that I was only there to support the dj and that I was on the dj's personal guestlist and that we would stay for an hour or two and then be on our way. The bouncer basically told me that his boss didn't want anyone dressed casually in and that there was nothing he could do about it. To the bouncers credit, he was polite and professional and after he told me that, I replied "fair enough" and we left.
I hate the fact that I have to go to such lengths to get into these clubs to hear the music that I want to hear. I am always respectful, I don't get into fights or grope people, and I spend plenty of money at the bar. It is ridiculous that I can not get into Sanders party after I have supported him for so long....I remember when he wasn't as popular as he is now, when he couldn't fill a club as large as Crobar, I attended every one of his parties when he was a resident at Arc, and I buy all of his CDs. The door at Crobar wasn't even particularly difficult to get into, in fact we were the only people that I saw that were bounced off the line.
I guess I am just posting this to vent. I'm not even really that mad that we didn't get in, I just find it pretty ironic that out of all the people on line they decided to pick on me. Tony wasn't dressed like a dirtbag so I don't even understand their reasoning. I don't even really like these new clubs like Crobar and Avalon, if Sander wasn't playing there I wouldn't even look twice at the place. It's funny that I had been there once before and got right in and it was the last time Sander played there. So in short, sorry everyone that I didnt meet up, it wasn't from lack of trying.
Instead we went to Robots for some techno and Nick, Dennis, Mikey, Krystal, Zack, Rob and a few others were there. I got super drunk, haha. |

| it really is a pain in the ass i agree, i always wear a button shirt and nice shoes just in case. I get blisters cause of the kicks and have ruined many nice shirts as well. I didn;t even bother going, i'm a little under the weather and well i hate the big room drama, I encourage everyone to come out more to local things, small rooms, better vibe, no bull i like the music BETTER and you don't spend nearly as much,:) |

joe: did tony wear a jacket/coat? because he could have hid the shirt. I am rather surprised that they turned u guys away because they WERE giving preference to couples...that sux...and ur the one who gave us information for the comps!!! :whip: :whip:
actually i saw quite a few ppl that stepped off the line and ended up leaving cuz of what they were wearing...damns i miss the days where it was only the music that mattered...

Lyss, Tony's shirt wasn't really that bad -it was solid green and long sleeved, so he didn't think it would be a problem.
Anyways, I dropped a line to Emma from Chaotica, she does Sander's north america bookings, and asked her to consider booking sander at a more fan-friendly venue next time. |

umm, thanks for the advice, but thats not really the point. the point is, i dont wanna have to drastically change what i look like just to get into a club to see a dj i like. when i go see a dj, i want to dance for hours, and i dont wanna do that in clunky shoes and a dress shirt. usually, these clubs lax on the dress code a little bit when they have djs like sander because of the crowd they tend to attract. besides, crobar is infamous for enforcing a dress code only sporadically at best, which makes it really frustrating when trying to get in. last time i saw sander at crobar, i actually was dressed like a dirtbag because i was coming from somewhere else, and i had no problem getting in. this made me figure that i'd have especially no problem if i was dressed decently, but obviously that wasnt the case here. i agree with what wheel of steel said in his reply: i prefer the local, smaller stuff anyway - better vibe, no big room drama, and better crowd. the music is always better too, since djs sometimes are encouraged to spin differently when playing big venues. so all in all, im not exactly heartbroken for not getting in - the way i see it, im doing crobar a favor by showing up anyway. i mean, its not like im dying to get in so i can be seen, and they still get my money. between going to avalon last weekend and the incident at crobar, i think its time to take a break from these clubs. i only attend them every six - eight months anyway. robots was a good party as usual, and i had a great time, except for when i had to drag joe to the car. he is, after all, much bigger than me. |
