I got Technic 1210 MK2's today, I put a record on, adjust the weight so its at max weight so the needle touches the record good, no skate set because i want the arm still, and when it plays, the needle doesnt touch the record good enough to actually hear the song, i tried gently pushing the cart down onto the vinyl, very gently, and boom...crystal clear sound, so now i have no idea whats going on, the tonearm can wiggle a little bit at the base also, ive been having to put a quarter down on the cart to have clear sound...are my tables broke? any answers will be greatly appreciated

thanks
mike

What needles are you using??

Generally, I like my needles at like 3 or 3.5 grams... and I RARELY ever have a problem with records skipping the needle, unless the record has a problem in the cut that can't really be fixed.

If you aren't using ortofons, I would say 2-3 grams would be ideal.

I'm using stock technics needles, how far should i turn the weight in? and should i use different grams since ive got stock needles?
J:\Digital
I don't know what the stock needles are..

Umm, well spin the weight out until you tonearms "free floats" and then set it down on the holder, set the dial to zero (without spinning the weights), and then dial you weights into 2.5 for now... Try them out, see if they skip or not, and if they don't you should be good, if they still skip bad, turn them in another .5, until you get the desired results

the weight is maxed, the anti skate is at zero, it still wont touch the vinyl hard enough to produce crystal clear sound....it does when i gently push the cart down to make the needle touch the vinyl better...why is this happening

Thats ing wierd man... I next thing I would recommend is if you don't plan on getting them checked out... but a penny or a dime directly over top of the cartridge.. That'll keep it down... :tongue2 just tape it on... LOL

I can't really explain now, I would need to see how its reacting.. :conf:

haha, that actually worked, but im very bothered with this problem

well until you get the decks checked out, or try on another set of carts, this is prolly your best solution for now.. :)

I'd be willing to bet you're just not setting it correctly.

i'd be willing to bet its the wires of the cart stopping it touching the record :p

i had that problem with a new whitelabel cart, i was screaming at it after i had let it break in overnight and everything and it was tracking extremely poorly and giving out disgusting sound quality.. then i inspected things closely and foun d one of the wires touching the record, keeping the stylus from getting in the groove correctly.

don't push the stylus down with your fingers. the mere suggestion of this makes me cringe :p

i THINK the cart they usually send out with techs is either an ortofon OM cart, or stanton 505sk. these are both usually set around 3.5g, i usually set the stantons to 4g though for better tracking.

maybe you have the extra weight screwed into the back of the tonearm?

if you do. take it off. :)
