--> More pro's use cubase + logic. Whilst this doesn't mean they are the best (for you), you have to look into programs other than FL and Reason cause theyre both considered "worse" than some others... But it is all personal preference ;)

You can get educational versions which are exactly the same for like... nothing (cubase is $600AUD or something) :)

the guy is a beginner yeah? please don't recommend logic to a beginner, its more complicated than a woman. :p

reason and fruity are probably the easiest to get your head around to start off with. if you use reason you can rewire it to cubase anyway.

Ok so start with reason/fruityloops + cubase, after I'm confident with them and if I need to do more, upgrade to Logic?

Also, what do you guys think of Pioneer CDJ 1000s for CD decks?

well as far as i know you can't rewire fruity through cubase.. but yeah thats about how it is. logic is best when used with proper hardware though, you probably won't need to ever use it once you have got the hang of reason/fruity. it is all about personal preference though, some people love fruity, i hate it, but people get cracking results with it so it has to be a decetn prgram etc etc...... but anyway, back to DJ stuff ;)

cdj1000's, fantastic cd decks. pretty much the industry standard, if not a bit more.

I think I'm gonna try to find some used Pioneer CDJ 1000s for cheap.

Also what Pioneer mixer would you guys suggest (since I'm on a fixed budget, one of the Pioneer DJM-707, DJM-909, DJM-3000, DJM-600/600K, or DJM-500, so I can get the $200 rebate.

And hmmm, since I'm looking at Pioneerprodj.com right now:

Purchase a Pioneer CDJ-1000MK2 from an authorized online or offline Pioneer dealer between September 1, 2004 and December 31, 2004 and Pioneer will give you a $150 rebate!

CALL 1-800-421-1604 FOR MORE DETAILS

I suppose thats also a really good deal too, let me know what you guys think between those mixers and about my choice of the CDJ 1000, and then I suppose I'll buy within the month, I'll probably go check out the headphones thread and look into those by myself though (since as someone said earlier, its a matter of personal preference and choice, plus money is a factor :P).

out of those mixers i would go for the djm600 or the djm3000. the only real difference is the layout, the 3000 is 19" rack mountable, and the layout is much nicer to use than the 600.

the spend your $200 rebate on some nice headphones ;)

Agreed to that! Although I like the layout on the djm600 better, but hey the djm3000 is usually cheaper and does the same thing :D .

2 technics sl1210mk2 (250 on ebay. maybe cheaper)
stantons final scratch (250- 300 on ebay.you can play your mp3s with your table an d your pc like its real vinyl) finalscratch.com i think
stanton smx 401.
headphones... if there is no money left use anything you can find at home for the first month and buy some DAMN GOOD headphones... your best friend (id go for the sony 7056 (i think thats the model) or maybe the pioneer hdj-1000 . pioneers cost more tho

My setup is around $1000 and faintly resembles what DJ JasonF posted

2 Technics Sl-1200 MK2, 500 for pair from ebay
1 Behringer DJX-700 (Wouldn't Recomend it) 200 from DJ Tranz (djmart.com)
1 Sony MDR-v700 (Love them almost as much as my MDR-V250s  ) 100 flat on froogle or pricegrabber

2 Staton 505s /w headshells from DJ Tranz (djmart.com) 80 dollars

Cables etc..20+

so it adds up to 1000, and pretty solid beginer config. :thepirate

As for pc djing, I used traktor for around 2 years before I had enough money to get my setup and it helped me "conceptually" get beatmatching and the feel of mixing.

And yes, VAS is really bad, records are really addicting one reason why maybe start out with the cdjs instead, imo though I preffer the feel of vinyl and sound quality too, but then again I dont like this hole in my checking account! :whip:

Hope I helped in anyway trance85, PM me or IM me anytime :D

FUUCKKK.....

I"m so confused...

I bought a new set of "somethings". It's got the 2 cd players. It's ing gay. It has 2 mike inputs, crossfaders, bass control, etc. etc.

Is this a mixer, or just the CD player?

it's like impossible to line up beats. I have to use pitch control that's it. Either that, or i cut bass as i'm fading, which seems to work.

Cost me $200 AUD (australian). Brand new.

my top priority is getting something that can allow me to mix new songs with vocals etc in. This "thing" pisses me off. I need loop controls etc. This thing i have... is it a mixer? what the hell is it?

My second priority is getting something that will let me transfer from one track to the next without having beats up on me like now, and having to rely on bass boost control or pitch control.

Any Models #s, brand? etc? What do you mean by "crossfaders, bass control, etc. etc." Does it have Eqs? If so I would consider that a mixer... :)
