Mean Streets |
definitely agree with the first 2! never seen Mean Streets.
Rules of Attraction - i think they advertised this movie the wrong way, making it seem like a typical college-humor movie, when in reality it was pretty dark. usually everyone i talk to hates it unless they've read the book first.
Garden State - easily the best movie i've seen this year. Zach Braff is amazing, and Natalie Portman did such a great job in it as well.
Donnie Darko - now a cult classic.
i rarely ever bother seeing the blockbuster hollywood flicks, i tend to stick to the arthouse theaters where they play a lot of independent, Sundance, and foreign films, so most of my favorite movies are underrated or people never know of them. |

Vanilla Sky is very underrated - most people seem to go "what the is that?" or "Oh, I saw that movie....uh....:conf:." I really, really loved it. A lot will come out and say the original was better...I have no idea as to where I would even see the original, or whether I would want to become part of the elite snobs that look down of this work of beauty merely because it was a 'remake'. :D
Oh well...
Did anyone see 'Frailty'? |

Yeah Frailty definitely falls into the underrated category. I have it on DVD and play it for all my friends. It's fun to watch people's involvement in the movie and see their reactions to the twists and turns. I usually like to mess with them a bit too. |

Dark City |
Yes definitely, +1 for Dark City
I love the throwback to 40s film-noir and the homage to Metropolis . Absolutely engaging and beautiful.
Also Triplets of Belleville, a nice underrated piece of animation from last year. It was nominated for best Animated feature but lost to Finding Nemo. I really like this movie a lot as well. |

Rent Bus 174 , its a documentary that covers some of the same topics, but be warned you'll come away from the experience feeling very icky. |

Here's an interesting page that shows every scene in The Matrix was also in Dark City.
