Armin at Zouk KL rocked my world

Since joining TA i have witnessed many a bash of artists like Armin, PvD, Tiesto, etc. Some pple have come away from their shows disappointed at their mixing ability, track selection, and generally the lack of enthusiasm the dj seems to have.
I personally haven't participated in any of these flmaewars because, i hadn't seen Pvd spin in a while, or even tiesto. However i witnessd Armin last night, and i must say i was not disappointed. Loved his track set, no trainwrecks, plus he looked pumped the whole time. Most of the night i spent dancing in front of the console. I must say Armin was the friendliest of most djs i've seen, and really generous too. I asked him for his autograph, but all i had was a napkin, so he gave me a vinyl and signed it instead.
The only fly in the ointment was that he had to stop at 3:30. Club Management didn't want to let him play anymore. He kept bugging them , but they didn't budge.
I was thinking this morning that maybe the reason that these big name dj's seem so dissapointing when they spin in europe and the us is precisely because they are so big there. Maybe the large turnout of poseurs at gigs they play at, who nothing about trance , but are just there cos "tiesto is cool" kills their enthusiasm. When they come to play somewhere like here in Malaysia, where eventhough the EDM scene is huge, has a very marginal trance scene, its kinda like going back to their grassroots, when dropping a tune drove everyone into a mania, and people had a good time. This is just my personal view tho after attending most big name gigs this year. Eventhout i say 'big name' tho, many of them weren't neccesarily known by the local populace. Peeps like BT, Ferry, Armin, Timo Maas, Ashtrax, Anne Savage, Sander K, have made my year, and it looks like its still looking good, Sasha next week, PvD in December, and who knows for New Years Eve.
peace to all, and much love to my Malaysian TAs |

Guess u have the same lineup in msia as sg's (both @ zouk).
I saw Sasha yesterday. He did a 5hr and damn, he's a mixing god lol.
Armin was here 3 days ago, did a 5.5hr set i think, was pretty good. Place was damn packed like hell. The crowd kept demanding for more when it ended lol. Ended up he was merely dropping track after track upon the 'real' end of the event. I was damn disappointed that quite a number of more effective crowd pleaser werent played :(
edit: sry miscalculated. correct 1: armin 4.5hr, sasha 4hr. |

| I find music is much better appreciated when listened to from the dancefloor as opposed to the armchair. |

Just an off-topic question.
How is the clubbing scene in KL esp. the trance scene?
I'll be moving there next year. My parents are already there as a matter of fact and keep pressing me to come visit em.:D
I've heard Zouk is BIG but what about the other local clubs?
I'm in Thailand and Malaysia is just a stones throw away. Might come down for PVD in December.:D |

the trance scene here is still in its infancy, house and breakbeats are the flavour of the day. but thankfully we're seeing a lotta big talent here as far as international djs. other big clubs include Atmosphere, and Nouvo. They're all a abt 5 mins walk from Zouk. Glad to hear that you're coming over. drop me a msg when ur down, if you need clubbin buddies,or just general questions abt malaysia, peace |

I was there on Friday, and was very disappointed that I couldn't be around for Sasha on Sunday. I tried to change my flight reservation, but was unable. However Armin on Friday was outstanding. He started at one and finished at 5:30 so was 4.5hrs set in total. And he just seemed really happy to be playing. Before he started playing, he came into the DJ booth to chants of 'Armin', and seemed like he would stop on 3 occasions, but the crowd wouldn't let him stop. He just seemed to enjoy this even more.
Definately a great crowd pleaser. |
