Two wrongs don't make a right. I find the best thing a person could do regardless of how they're being treated is remain consistent with their own behaviour. I always treat negative with positive, doesn't always work, but it also doesn't make things more negative. |

you are usually right but sometimes someone needs a taste of their own medicine. To always give positive feedback to negative would go against pavlovs theory of classical conditioning and behavioural modefication. In other words, if the consequences are positive, it will reinfornce the negative behaviour...
This is why i find the new way of disciplining kids to be really dumb for example. Apparently the "best" way now is to say in a positive (whiney) voice "now now, you are really good at throwing the ball but i dont think its appropriate to be whacking it a little jimmy's head"
psychobabble is fun :D woohoooo i feel like a nerd :)
lol
but yes, usually you are right. Be super nice to the point that they throw up, and then when they are bent over puking, BOOT TO THE HEAD!!(nyah nyah nyah nyah) |

LOL! Well no, I just mean this...here's a perfect example...
I was at the grocery store a few weeks back and it was rammed. EVERYONE in the store was horrible, grumpy, pushy...every man for himself basically. Well, I got a spot in line and another woman came in behind me. She asked me to save her spot while she went to get something, and I did. Not too long after another woman showed up and stood behind me. I said nothing, just waited for the other woman to come back. When she finally did, she said to the other woman "Oh, sorry, I just went to get something, my spot has been saved." I piped in that yes, I was saving her spot (even though it was obvious, cause the other lady's cart was there the whole time), and I apologized. The woman gave me the dirtiest look ever, and sighed loudly. I just turned my back, as I'm not going to play into her negativity. I could have been nasty back to her, but it wouldn't have helped.
The point is, negative people expect negative responses, it's like they want to drag everyone else down to where they are. Sometimes when a person is so far down, it's hard for them to just say " it" and simply be more pleasant...kinda like the Grinch, so they just attempt to get everyone on their level.
My other point is that by being positive, it hopefully makes the negative person reflect on their behaviour once they've just examined the situation. One would hope that they'd realize how jerky they appear and make some attempt to be pleasant themself.
Also, it might not seem to make a world of difference, but it has to start somewhere, and I'm sure the lady whose spot I saved had a less grumpy day because of it...and that's where a chain reaction begins.
That's why I say be consistent. At the end of the day only you are accountable for your actions, and if you tried in some small way to make things better, then you'll recieve better.
I dunno, I guess I'm a bit of a hippy, a do-gooder/peacemaker, whatever. |

everyone needs some drama.
everyone needs to know they are alive.
everyone needs to stand up for themselves.
everyone needs a boost to their self esteem. |

Everybody needs a bit of gossip.
"...and I'm chalk full of that, man!" in a Hunter S.T voice. |
