Ronaldinho(who has traditionally been an attacking midfielder in the hole behind the 2 strikers but only recently taken up frontal positions with etoo), Viera, Zidane, Nedved... etc.

Are you saying that he is the first player to be under racial abuse and that's why he was making hard tackles? That's ridiculous. In almost everygame there is some form of verbal abuse towards players and most of them don't lash out like that.

I'm not saying you don't have the right to be angry at what happened, almost every Spanish person is ashamed of it, but it sounds like you're losing your mind over this. In almost every qualifier/friendle England plays it seems this happens like vs. Macedonia, Slovakia etc. The patterns I've noticed over this is that it always happens to England's black players. I've never anything like this happen with Holland, France, Portugal etc who have just as many within their teams, so I definetly think there is a high level of general hatred for England within Europe which really is nothing new.

Well English people today can't help the fact that they basically ran the show for three centuries and told everyone what to do. And they basically beat everyone in any given war...and had the greatest Empire and modern impact on the world...yeah, jealousy still lingers...but these days, it seems to carry over to football.

No, he isn't better, but it's a really good GK indeed, I think he will be in the bench of spanish selection in little time.

This time I have to fully agree with you, I liked Xavi since the first time he played with Barca, and I think he is the best midfielder in spanish league without any doubt.

I have always liked Xavi ever since he made his breakthrough several years ago when he wasnt so popular so dont get me wrong. But I think you're getting a little carried away with him at the moment. Yes he is in great form and has tremendously helped Barcelona to the top of the league. But the same can be said about Nedved at Juentus where they are at the top. And Viera at Arsenal where they went unbeaten for so long. Steven Gerrard was also in a very rich vein of form (attracting a lot of attention from Real Madrid) scoring goals from left-right and centre for England and Liverpool before he cruelly broke his foot.

I'd love to see Barcelona win this year, not only because they are one of my fav teams but also to see Xavi get some proper recognition.

..in fact A.Cole never got monkey noises made at him until his incident with Joaquin.

Oh, well that's alright then, if he made a few bad tackles first then I guess the fans made a reasonable conscious decision to start the monkey chants....

I don't think you and a few others in this thread understand, it's the mindset of the fans in question that is what is shocking, fans get passionate & angry at football games, obviously, but if that instictively leads to racist chants, then a few questions need to be asked, especially as it wasn't just one or two, but several thousand, even a policeman was seen joining in for s sake.
