That's an uphill battle, but, I would much rather see 1Groove back on 89.5 FM. |

That's exactly what we want. To be able to turn on the radio and not hear Britney "Boob Job" Spears.... or the Back"Door" Boyz... or N'Suck!!! C'mon... what do you mean Vivid Boy when you say you wouldn't want it to get played out on some radio station??? In Europe u have a ton of stations that play Trance, Dance, Techno, Progressive, & hi-NRG sounds 24/7!!! Say for instance...someone who's never heard much Trance before happens to stumble and tune into our station while flipping through channels in their car, and then they realize how sweeeeeet it is to drive and listen to some amazing uplifting, melodic, "Dream" Trance??? Then we would've converted another non-belliever, plus we'd get stonger as a community (a Trance community that is). It's unavoidable..the Rave/Trance scene is gonna BLOW UP! It's already grown so much here in Toronto alone. There are it's pro's and con's but hey!!!
I personally would love to turn on the radio in the middle of the day and hear dj's dropping a sweet set...or just some sweet choones. But hey!! that's me.....:clown: |

| exactly thats u.....i guess u can call me selfish but the way i see it is that if trance becomes popular to all the lil teenie boppers all my hard worked collection of trance tunes are good for ..i take pride in every trance song i find....i mean lets face it its not easy to good underground trance than it is to find N'Suck.....but if trance is available to these lil Teenie Boppers then Trance will be just as good as Britney "check out my huge " Spears...i guess i am selfish but when u spend 3-4 years searching for ur collection and building it u dont want to see it get ruined..... |

OK, sorry for opening an old thread but I think it leads in an interesting direction:
Rave radio in Toronto.
Yeah we got it better than most in North America. Global Groove (100.7) represents the underground scene fairly well (despite the lack of much trance). 89.5 used to be 1groove.com which was really good but they got replaced by a "campus" version of global groove. It sounds like they have more trance programming.
The main problem is that they only air overnight which isn't exactly the most convienent for "normal" people.
A 24/7 radio station that plays electronic "rave" music would be amazing! Of course in this day and age this is extremely unrealistic. After giving up the so-called last fm spot to flow 93.5 who would be willing to take the chance to change to an "underground" genre?
Furthermore, the nature of "rave" music is inherently underground. How would an electronic radio station balance this with the demand for commercialism? Hard to say.
And yeah it is selfish to want "your hard earned" trance collection to yourself. Unfortunetly not everyone is lucky enough to download the music collection. I for one can't wait till I can have a fast connection so I can get and know every song I want. However I'll never stop buying the discs and tapes from the stores - support the scene ; especially ours! -

Mmmmm. Yep, pretty selfish, or maybe even a little silly. Are you sayin the music's only good cuz others don't know about it? I agree some good stuff does get ruined by overplaying (eg. Darude-Sandstrom!!) but wouldn't it be nice if you didn't have to keep trying to explain to others what exactly this music you're into is?
More importantly, perhaps the clear shortage of trance-loving babes everyone on the site is whining about could improve if more girls got to listen to the stuff on the radio and (god willing) like it!! |

| I think what he's trying to say is that the more popular it gets the more profitable it becomes to make songs like Sandstorm or those Blade ripoffs. I listen to a lot of hip hop so I've already gone through what happens when everybody wants in on the new trend. You get a load of bull to put it nicely. You all know that he's right too but you're just afraid to admit it. I'm happy with waiting till midnight to hear good music because I barely listen to the radio anyway. |

| Well, put that way, maybe you have a point. I was just thinking as reading you post (and re-reading my own) that people just hearing the stuff on radio probably won't get it anyway. I guess we'll all just have to work hard at getting friends (exp. girls) to experience the music and hopefully become addicts too. |

| Personally, I would like to keep trance as underground as possible, the last think that I want is for it to become the "food for the masses". I think that by being secluded from the mainstream culture, trance carries with it a certain mystic and an aura of mystery. Not to many people that I come across with know what trance really is, they all believe that Trance = Euro. However, that's not to say that I believe in censorship either. |
