Are you even reading what he's trying to achieve? He wants complex backing drums, not the most basic patterns on earth.

Now I've probably said this before, but here's what I do:

I have several different patterns, all panned to different sides with varying amount of reverb and delay (not too much!). Now, the patterns can be very random, it doesn't really matter (as long as they're not completely offbea)t since when you combine the different parts you get a nice, thick and driving layer of hats. When I want to squeeze the last ounce of energy from the percs I also add a ride to first and third beats of a bar.

Also, I like to use chopped breakbeat loops (low end shaven off) to add a little extra flavour as well. Nothing wrong with using loops as long as they're only the spice, not the entire meat ;)

I can post some samples later if you want.

Yeah, was gonna do some now since I can't sleep but the damn soundcard drivers started to act up again so now I have no sound at all and I can't be bothered to reboot... oh well, I'll post some when I wake up.

Frase
This is something i stuggle on, flat percs, people recommend throwing some shakers in, but i never come out with anything which offers groove.

Any tips or example patterns to get me going would be appreciated :)
