After I first saw Elephant, I read this review, and I thought it was a good summary of why I enjoyed the film

Elephant is obviously not for everybody, and to each his own tho.

did he say "bling bling" and "that is whack" a lot? :)

i didnt see it, but it sounds interesting. was it just based off of the columbine incident or was it a made up story?

based heavily on Columbine.

it's like a Columbine spin-off that focuses more on a set of characters as the moment of the shooting approaches.
it was alright. intense. but, for that, i give credit to the direction. it was just beautifully directed. i'd say about 60% of the character development came from the camera itself. the rest was almost..typical. stereotypical. almost.

No, they introduced him 25 minutes from the end of the movie only to die 30 seconds later. He didn't even have any lines.

how can any1 say it was good? its quite possibly the worst film ive ever seen and thats a lot of films.

Gus van Sant has disappeared up his own arse. The acting is absolutly appauling (partly because Gus made them improvise instead of making a script) and the direction was just utter e too. The story line was wank and not ever plausable at times. And he even tried to tie in the whole computer games make kids violent theme into it too

shame on any1 who thinks its a good film :whip:

I agree about blaming the video games was a bit too simple.
I liked the acting cause it was natural; the actors preety much played themselves. The movie's plot is not supposed to be nothing more than life-like.
The cinematography was really interesting too

Thank you for that remarkable piece of constructive criticism. It has truly changed my view on this movie, and maybe even beyond.

Then again, I liked Elephant. It's definitely something you'll either love or hate, and I'm in the first group. According to DRM, I should be ashamed now. I'm not, though.

What was that movie with the black guy yelling "Dude, that is whack" called again? I can't seem to remember..
Gholy Host
There was a streak last year (or maybe 2002) where they released a lot of the 'Teen life' movies. Something like The Day Before Yesterday, about Asian teen culture, then that other one 13 or whatnot, and I saw a few posters for this in the papers. I saw 13, it was pretty good, that was it.

I'll look for this one next time I'm at BB.

-Edit-
Garden State huh? Wasn't the underlying message in that something like: Do drugs -- Get with Natalie Portman?

It was a fun movie, but not something you think about.

Not a bad unintentional comedy but if you got emotional over this you have a vagina, period.

i didnt say u should feel ashamed. i said shame on you.

i really like indie films and love to watch them and try to think deeper than just following the story line but elephant just had nothing to it. all the things that were pointed out every1 already knows and nothing about it was clever. but meh each to their own
CONNERMAN2000
This movie scared me, mainly because I can relate every character in this movie to someone I know in my life, including the people that shot up the school. And, since Im still in high school, its that much more intense. Loved it. This wasnt acting, it was the characters playing their real lives in front of a camera. And I loved how the film barely cut, it was just a camera following everyone around. Very Quentin Tarantino. Awesome movie.
