Thought this belonged in the music forum rather than chillout, feel free to move it if I'm wrong.

WASHINGTON -- Look out, music pirates: The recording industry wants the right to hack into your computer and delete your stolen MP3s.

It's no joke. Lobbyists for the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) tried to glue this hacking-authorization amendment onto a mammoth anti-terrorism bill that Congress approved last week.

An RIAA-drafted amendment according to a draft obtained by Wired News would immunize all copyright holders -- including the movie and e-book industry -- for any data losses caused by their hacking efforts or other computer intrusions "that are reasonably intended to impede or prevent" electronic piracy.

Let them do it. Then we can file a class-action lawsuit and knock them out of 'business'

hihi wanna know on which law they wanna do this! mp3 format is not illegal and how will they know if I have a mp3 legal or illegal!?!? When I have the original CD / Vinyl it's not forbidden to have a mp3 of that song (as long as you don't spread it in the internet for download or so!) but they don't know which CDs / Vinyls I have so they also don't know which mp3s I have illegal on my PC so they can't delete stuff on my PC and going into my PC is also forbidden! (privacy and only the thinking that somebody could have illegal mp3s on his computer don't break the privacy law!!!)

I backup at least everyday.. And there will alwayz be hackers on our side that will be bigger and better than there "hired so called proffesional hackers".

If anything, programs will be all over the net to protect our computers from that , nothing to worry about ;)
