Fido's "Name that Tune" service (track ID'ing will never be the same?)

i wanted to post this earlier, but the board was having some issues a week back or so ..

anyway, Fido released some track ID'n service whereby you call a # and allow the phone to record part of a song you're listening too and you'll receive an SMS message with the name of the song back on your phone. the service isn't free, but i can't imagine the people who work this job (bunch of guys like DJ Kurfew) sitting at a desk trying to figure out a track being played at the Guv with all that heavy bass on the phone .. anyhow, here's more info:

Have you ever heard a song you liked in a bar, at a club, on the radio or on TV and really, really wanted to know what it was but never found out? Thanks to Name That Tune, you can satisfy your curiosity right away!

Name That Tune is an all-new Fido service that’ll tell you exactly what you’re listening to. Just dial #DJ!

Here’s how it works:

1. Dial #DJ (#35) from your Fido.
2. Wait for the tone and place your handset close to the music for about 30 seconds.
3. We’ll hang up for you.
4. You’ll receive a text message with the name of the artist and the title of the song.

From November 10 to January 11, if you're a new user of Name That Tune, your first two successful song identifications are FREE. Airtime charges apply.

Your first song identification is free, and subsequent successful identifications cost just $1 each. And if Name That Tune can’t identify the song, all you’ll pay for is a few seconds of airtime.

To get the most out of Name That Tune, click here.

For more information, visit our Name That Tune FAQ.

Airtime charges apply. Name That Tune isn’t into classical music. And the tune has to be RECORDED, not a live performance. Name That Tune won’t be able to identify what you’re singing any better than your friends.

What happens if it identifies a song wrongly? Do you still pay?

lol

There might be tunes in my head that I heard a DJ play one time.. but never knew the name of. Maybe I can just hmmmm/beep out the sounds with my voice so I can get the ID. That would be badass.

I dont know if these arses know what they are getting themselves into. The fact that any good club has DJs who play unreleased stuff never crossed their minds i guess. I cant wait until they keep sending back "inconclusive" as an answer LOL
